My review of the Playa Pesquero is posted in the trip report section.
Playa Pesquero Review (http://www.7daysinparadise.com/tripreports/cu-pp.html)
I know I've left a few things out, but the basics are there.
Overall we had an excellent time there and I would definately return and recommend it.

Great review Heather.
I have to say it echoes mine even down to the criticism of the towels which, I agree, were of very poor quality for a 4 star plus hotel. I did raise this point with the hotel management during the course of my stay when I was asked for my comments on the hotel, but it appears they have done nothing about it to date.
You didn't miss much also IMHO by not going to the Asiatic restaurant. That's where the famous Bellagio tooth was cracked on a spring roll!!
I was in Room 1122 so you would, no doubt, have been able to see that from your balcony, because I was just across the way from Block 15.
Great minds definitely do think alike because reading your review it was just as though I was back there reliving my wonderful experience.
BTW: Would you care to write this review of mine for the Melia?? - It's taken me a week to write it, that's why I put the photos up first. Hopefully I'll be submitting it via John's 'beta' testing site tomorrow.
Anyway it was a great review Heather, many congratulations.

I would love to write your review for the Melia, but it would cost you the price of the trip so that I would have a first hand view. :D
There isn't a lot different to say about PP, it's a great resort but it's the people that make it great. I don't like to say a lot of things about staff in my reviews because it's a personal feeling. I'd rather just report on what amenities the resort has. Really the only things I could fault it on are the towels and the nightly shows. The towels are standard hotel issue, but I would have thought that a nice resort like the PP would have better quality.
I found the PP very similar to Tryp Peninsula in Varadero. I would have to say that the rooms at Tryp were nicer at least the bathrooms were. They had a nice big soaker tub with a shower, and a seperate shower stall as well. There was also a nice big walk in closet at Tryp.
You can't really compare resorts because they all have their strengths and weaknesses.
PP is the first resort that we have considered returning to, so that must mean something.

I know what you mean Heather. I'm softening up a little on the Melia at CSM after a week of being home.
It really is a mini Playa Pesquero but the beach and ocean are picture postcard perfect, sooooo much better than the PP.
I should be screaming to go back there but I'm not. I want to return to the PP. I suppose the limited choice of a la carte restaurants at the Melia, at the time of my visit, and the disappointing quality of the Buffet food are still fresh in my mind.
In retrospect the Buffet food was not that good at the PP either but there was a far larger choice of restaurants there - plus there was the fantastic 'Playa Pesquero' pizza at La Trattoria. Funny but that's one of the things that made that resort so outstanding for me. Sometimes it's the simple things that count.

Bellagio - what are you doing up at 4am??? You should be recovered from your jet lag by now. Or, are you up dreaming about Cuba???

Tuss:
I just can't seem to get myself off to bed before 4am these days and then I lie until in until around 11.30 am.
The problem lies with the forum as at 4am over here it's only 11pm in the Toronto region, so you guys are probably just preparing for bed yourselves.
I'm also struggling along trying to think of things to say in my review of the Melia CSM, I can't believe the problems I'm having with it. I don't want to appear to be too critical of the place because it was a fantastic destination but it just lacked that extra 'PP' sparkle if you know what I mean.
Had I not been to the PP maybe I would have thought it was wonderful. I'm going to take another look at it shortly and may have to do yet another editing job on it. It's really getting to me now - maybe I should just post it and be damned!!!

:( Glad you had a great trip!
