Bellagio, and all others who've had a Trattoria pizza at the Playa Pesquero, I would go back to this resort just for these.
Did anyone put that oil on the table on their pizza. Don't really know what it was, but it was a nice touch to the pizza.
I really want another one...
-
PastorAsh what cheese did they use..?
-
Last night as I was in bed and at that stage where I was almost asleep, there came this voice from beside me saying...
"oh, I want to go back to the Playa Pesquero for pizza...those pizzas were so awesome!"
I have got to get this man back to Cuba! I would try making the pizzas at home, but I know it wouldn't be the same!
-
Pastor I tried the oil, not sure what it was but I'll try anything. :D
The pizza's were good there, but what was it that makes them so good?
the crust? the toppings? the cheese?
I don't know, but they were good.

:) I don't want to get off track here but don't want to start another whole thread. I noticed a prevalent "smell" in Cuba at the restaurants in the AI and outside as well. It took me a good day to get used to it and to look forward to a meal. Do they use a different Oil in all their cooking or what? Did anyone else notice this? To get back on track, we enjoyed the pizza at our resort as well and hope I can someday compare them Pastorash! :D
-
What makes the pizza's so good...
The obvious answer is that they were in Cuba, making all food good.
Seriously though, one of the things I really liked about the pizzas is that you ordered them and they seemed to appear in front of you almost immediately, very little wait time.
Dunno what cheese they used. I enjoyed the tortilla shell they used, never have that at home, and the different ingredients were cool as well.
Tried most of them over the course of the week. I want another dozen!!
-
I remember when the good pastor sent me an email to tell me I must have lunch at La Trattoria and try their pizzas.
At the time I wasn't really in to pizzas at all, but on about my fourth day I thought I'd take the good man's advice (seeing as all that he had told me beforehand about the PP I was finding to be correct) so I walked into La Trattoria for lunch.
I was hooked - I never had a bad pizza there at all, they were fantastic (never used the oil though). I'm pretty traditional so I just stuck to the 'Playa Pesquero' pizza which consisted of mushroom, shrimps, bacon and onion to which I sometimes asked them to add pineapple.
I enjoyed my lunches there more than any other meal of the day. They were JUST FANTASTIC. I would return to the PP just to eat the pizzas - it may sound corny, but it's true.
-
Well I can't speak about the PP...but TRYP used funky cheese on there Pizza (goat I think)..and IMO it really made them tatse BAD !!
Bulldog :s:
-
I tried the pizza on my first day because of all the good things i had heard about it. However, i was very very disappointed. Maybe it was just a bad day, but i didn't go back. Now the mystic chicken.... I had a lot of that. Even had it delivered to my room late one night (ordered 2 large orders in fact)!

The pizzas at the Melia in Cayo Santa Maria were poor, even the Sol's next door were better.
The pizzas we are talking about at the PP are the 'real deal' the 'bees knees' the 'genuine article'.
In other words they are good, very good. Don't just take my word for it, ask <img border="0" alt="[pastor]" title="" src="graemlins/pastor.gif" /> or even Heather.
-
Tuss,
You were disappointed in the pizza and I was disappointed in the misty chicken.
I had heard so much about this chicken and when it came it was about 6 Chicken nuggets and they were burnt and dry. :(
My daughter ordered them a couple of times and she said the same thing, they were bad.
I guess it just depends on who is cooking on what day.

I took a very food-fussy 2 1/2year old to the PP, and though he ate very little except bacon and french fries, all week, those pizzas were going down, like there was no tomorrow!
There is no higher praise, in my opinion!

That shows how subjective food can be. Tuss didn't care for the pizza. I didn't go overboard on the Misty Chicken.
I too had heard so much about this misty chicken but I think mine was slightly overcooked. I took a few portions, with chips, up to the Sports Club one evening and I sat with the staff whilst we munched our way through it. It was OK nothing special though - but the pizzas - to die for!!!
-
Heather and I are in complete agreement, but she can type faster than me!!!
I need a secretary - where's Millybess when I need her.
-
After all you words..I have to go to thePP just to try there pizza :D
And Gambitt you are right ;)
Bulldog
-
Well of course Millybess was with me at the Tim Horton's drinking coffee - where did you think she was?

You have apparently left me with the job of sorting out your d*** itinerary. I can't be in all places at the same time!
:bus:

Hey, Kimber, how did you get there so quickly??? Did you have a nice drive?

Tuss and I are in complete agreement on this one.
BTW Tuss, you ordered TWO misty chickens. Was there a reason for that? ;)
-
Well bit of a heavy foot I guess. ;) Pleasant drive, uneventful, just the kind I like. In fact, it was perfect time for me to stop, hit the lue, and grab a coffee. It was an absolute pleasure meeting up with you. Perhaps next time, I'll have more time, and we can sample some of the wine we are always chatting about. LOL.
I especially enjoyed all the talking we did about Bellagio :rof: . Hope his ears are not burning.
Just kidding Mr B. all discussions around you were good!

She was obviously very hungry - the sea air had given her an appetite!!
:rof:

Millybess,
OMG you are right. So sorry B, we'll make it up to you. You see, it has something to do with clinking of wine glasses vs. clinking paper TH cups, just doesn't have the same ring to it.
:wi: <img border="0" alt="[wine2]" title="" src="graemlins/wine2.gif" /> LOL

I don't think he's going to accept our apology Kimber, as we promised him we would do this.
We'll just have to drink enough wine that we won't care! (lol)

How could you possibly have forgotten such an important toast.

We're sorry bellagio. Really. But, you have to forgive us if you're coming this way.
:D :D :D :D :D :D

Cheer up B. It could be worse, we could have not even remembered that we forgot to do this. :rof: :rof:

Well OK I'll accept your apology because of what Kimber said about the clinking of wine glasses vs. clinking paper TH cups, just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Also in the interests of Anglo Canadian relations, plus the proximity of my State Visit to your fair land I've no wish to antagonise the natives so I'll let you off this time.

EXCELLENT POINT Kimber! Now wouldn't he have felt badly about THAT.
We have redeemed ourselves, I'm sure!

Yes, big appetite ;)

Morning Tuss - That's exactly what I said.
It's just you and I here at the moment and as it's only 5.30am with you I just wondered if you have just arrived home from work or just about to set off?
-
Actually there are 3 of us
-
Like the avatar thing bellagio
I'm barely awake
-
The PP Travellers Club then, eh
millybess, tuss and bellagio.
:6: :6: :6:
-
I think Tuss left about 20 mins. ago.
-
Millybess:
Your turn to let Bess out I guess!!
Changed the avatar over this morning. This might be the demonstration model for all I know because dougjp has not been back to me with any updates.
I've just linked it to the url he provided me with, so if he changes it, it could well disappear into oblivion.
I like it myself too, the man is a 'genius', it's totally beyond me how he does it. He offered to do one for anybody so I jumped in to be first in line (a la Cubaking thread!!!) but apparently I was the only one who applied!!!
-
Well it's really nice.
Yes, I'm on Bess duty. Drinking my first cup of coffee. Just starting to wake up.
-
I'm just finishing my second one, having been up for nearly ninety minutes now.
My you girls are lightning fast on the keyboard. You can type faster than I can talk.
Looking at the threads this morning, looks like you were posting on here at the same time.
I don't really know how you can do it.

Not this morning. I can barely see. I think I blew up yahoo lastnight because this a.m. it says it's connecting, but nothing happens. Do I have to download it again do you think?
-
I've spotted this over on the General Chit Chat thread, so I've replied there.
My Yahoo opened OK.
-
Ok, a couple of things...
First off, woke up this morning, and was surprised to see 45 responses to the Trattoria Pizza thread, I thought wow, I get to reminensce a bunch of times over pizza commments. But alas, another off-topic thread. Sigh..
Secondly, the Misty Chicken. I loved it, had it lots of times, but yes, if it's overdone like mine was once or twice, it wasn't the greatest. And getting two orders is a must as they are only supposed to be an appetizer, so the plate is small and the chicken is smaller, so you have to order more to get enough to satisfy a hungry man!
Third, I'm going to stop making nice comments about the PP. If I don't it's going to end up like the Jibacoa, and it will get priced out of my range at some point in the future when I want to return.
I'm thinking Cayo Largo, but boy, PP may pul my heartstrings in the fall if we can go back to Cuba.
-
PastorAsh:
Good point that about the PP, maybe we should ease back in shouting it's praises because I, too, need to return.
Looks like you, Heather and myself all had the odd problem with the Misty Chicken. Never had a bad pizza though!!
<img border="0" alt="[cook]" title="" src="graemlins/ernaehrung002.gif" />
-
How about Misty Chicken Pizza..?
:D
-
Not a bad idea Bulldog, but I would hate to ruin the pizza's.
I really was not impressed with the chicken, I've had better chicken nuggets from McDonalds. Now that should tell you something.
-
Now Heather - I wouldn't go that far!!!
Mind you I've never eaten at Mickey D's so I wouldn't know. My grandkids do like their Chicken McNuggets though.
The Sports Bar staff thought that the Misty chicken I took them was fine - mind you their favourite meal was Black beans and rice, so maybe I shouldn't put too much store by their opinion.
-
Well..why not give it a try.. :D
-
Ahhh, Misty Chicken, yummy....
Ahhh, Bacon and Shrimp Skewers, yummy....
Wait, get across to the other side of the walkway and back into the Trattoria, did anyone ever have anything to eat here other than pizza?
-

Those little skewers were amazing. Very small and not very filling though.
One day a group of us at the pool went to the beer garden and after asked for a selection of food for our group. WEll, a couple of the guys in the group had been flirting with this particular waitress all week, so she rewarded us with 2 big grocery bags full of take out food. We took it up to the pool and made a buffet! It was amazing - enough food to feed 15 people including several pounds of misty chicken, fries, skewers, deep fried cheese balls, ... When we were stuffed we took the leftovers to the towel hut and the staff enjoyed the rest.

Mmmmmmm, stop it, you're going to make me start checking the prices for the PP for October!
-
PastorAsh:
Well you are the man that's studying all the deals for October and November, so what's looking good for you at the moment?
-
PastorAsh:
PP Nov 5 & 12: 1199+, Nov. 6 & 13: 1063.53+
Oct. 29: 1199+ Oct. 16, 23, 30: 1104+
Oct. 8, 15 + 22: 1143 Oct. 9 1034+
FYI
-
Why not try another place...?
:p :s:
-
Bulldog :s:
The Pastor is examining all possibilites. He was thinking of Breezes Jibacoa but the prices appear to be rising for this popular hotel.
He'll find somewhere I'm sure and, much as he and Mrs P loved the PP, I'll wager he goes somewhere different this year.
-
Hey....I went in October last year to the Iberostar Daiquiri - last minute (10 days before and paid $780 - taxes included...for 4 of us 2 adults and 2 kids - a total of $2400 for the semana. October 18-25 and not one iota of a hurricane. But, it booked up pretty tight by thanksgiving - around 10 days before.
I am going to the Jibacoa in early November but will wait till October to book. It is still slow season.
If you pay now....you may lose $4-500 pp....wait till at least Sept to book.
-
Mr. B. Nothing is "looking good" yet. I'm just watching general prices for all of Cuba and watching how they drop over time. I expect things will begin to move on a more regular basis by mid-summer and that's when we'll look more seriously, if we are able to go at all.
I'm a creature of habit, so if we hadn't booked and I saw a good PP sell-off I would probably nab it, my wife and I would go back in a heart beat. That said, the bulk of our interest is in Cayo Largo in general, for the peace and quiet of nothingness.
Those prices for PP for the fall are way out of my league. I'm hoping for, but not expecting, prices similar to the June sell-off's we've seen these last few weeks. I won't pay over $2000 total like we did for PP last November, in fact if we can snag the cost + taxes below $1500 I'll count myself lucky. Expecting $1600 - $1800 in the end.
The beaches (not the naturism) of Cayo Largo beckons me, but so do good deals, and those pizza's, sigh , I can't wait for another dozen or so.
