Title: Booking Dilemma
Post by: mister on August 03, 2005, 02:08:00 AM
I need help!! I am looking to book a trip back to the Playa Pesquero departing January 13, 2006. Travelling will be my lovely wife, father-in-law, brother-in-law, 3-year old daughter and yours truly. For everyone, taxes and insurance included, it is around $6400. I am tempted to book now, as I am afraid that with the new fuel surcharge, any last minute deals will not be that great, and we will end up either going somewhere else, or paying the same if not more for the PP. It will be disastrous to not get any PP pizza, so another resort is not an option. This is a bit more than we wanted to spend, but we are set on this fabulous resort. Any suggestions?????

IMO mister, this is an okay deal.  We paid slightly more than that to go to the PP last March Break.  So basically, you're paying last season's prices.

I doubt you could get a much better deal waiting last minute, especially because there are five of you.  Also, in my experience, at that time of year there aren't many last minute deals to the PP.

I think this statement says it all for you.  You know what you want, when you want it and it doesn't appear as though you have much flexibility.  Because it's only August, I personally think you have time to watch the rates for a couple more months just to see if the price moves at all.  Otherwise, you're best to absorb the extra cost to be sure you're getting what you want, which surely will be well worth it in the end!

Keep in mind January 13 is not a busy time of year for travel.  It's also one of the cheapest weeks to travel.  We always travel the 3rd week of January.  Prices start to rise after the 3rd week.  There are usually plenty of sell-offs during this time.  I think the price you have now is a little high for that time of year but not by too much.  I guess you have to decide what the peace of mind of having it booked is worth to you.

Mister,

Is this price for one week?  It seems really high to me.  We paid a lot less than that in May.  I think it was around the $800 mark, and your price works out to around $1200 for January.

January after New Years is very cheap.  I'm not saying that you'll get a $500 deal, but you will probably see PP going for around $700 - $800 plus taxes.

Keep in mind that there are no guarantees with selloffs.  The PP might come up, it might not.

If you are set on this resort, then I would not wait for a selloff.  The prices for January won't start to drop until at least November.  Can you wait that long?

Ultimately you have to settle for a price that you are comfortable paying.  It looks to me that you are quoting rack rates, and if you wait a couple of months you will get at least $100 - $200 off rack rates.

It's up to you to do what you are comfortable doing.

Sell off prices for the 2nd & 3rd weeks of January have been very good the past 3 years.

I so wish we could get prices like that

We seem to pay a bit more leaving from Winnipeg - we booked PP for the last week in January
2 adults and 1 child and it came to 4300 and change.

oh how i wish we received prices that were closer to Toronto's

But when you want a specific resort you pay what they ask lol  ugggg   <img border="0" alt="[rainbow]" title="" src="graemlins/rainbow.gif" />

If you can get away then, check out the first two weeks of January... Tack it on to your Christmas holidays.  This year, I was off for a month at Christmas, and we got a really good deal to fly out so early in January.

Debmich and I are planning the same trick this year!

Our price for the Blau Costa Verde for two weeks, with one child and two adults was $4800, but I do have to coupons to turn in, so I should get $200 off.  They were coupons in our package from last year, if we booked another Signature vacation we would be entitled.  So $4600 for two weeks from Calgary.
