Title: Family Resort
Post by: flopnfly on February 26, 2006, 12:23:00 PM
Here we go again trying to plan a family vacation for end of June.

I swore I would never try to organize this again but here I am searching for "great" family resorts in Cuba.

There will be my sister and BIL.  He likes to dive, and she requires a swim up bar in the shade and a beach with shade.

My oldest daughter and her family.  Joe is a picky eater and very fussy about everything being "clean".  Julie is easy to please.  The kids are 1 1/2 and 3 1/2.

John Bonnie, Amber and myself are easy to please, just a nice beach nice pool and no bugs in the room.

I'm thinking Cayo Coco because the resorts are close to the airport which would be good with the kids in tow.

Any suggestions, comments or rude remarks?     :D

Heather, the Cayo Coco area would probably be the best choice with the little ones. From what everyone says, you can walk out for quite a ways and the water is still very shallow. No quick drop offs like Cayo Santa Maria

The ID is supposed to be very "family friendly" and they usually have "kids deals" for children 3-12 stay free.
Though I notice that the Sol Club Cayo Coco through sunquest has that as well as children 2 & under stay and eat free as well

Heather
Club Amigo, Guardalavaca would also fit the bill and give you a few shops close by to explore!!

        Good Luck ...F&T

  Shade on the beach also!

I have to agree with Wendy - the Iberostar Daiquiri will fit the bill.  The swim up bar is in the shade (under a waterfall), there are plenty of trees on the beach for shade, the water is shallow for a long way out, the food is good and everything was very clean!!  I believe there is even a dive shop at the Melia next door!!

If you are looking "family" then I would suggest the Grand Playa Turquesa.

The Adult pool with the swim up bar, is right next to the kids pool, so everyone can sit together, when not at the bar.  The beach has lots of shade, and the pool bar is shaded for most of the day.

The GPT has the best buffet, that we have tried in Cuba.

Diving is at the PCV, 5 min. by cab, and they will drop you off right at the dive shop, so no hauling gear across the beach.  When it's time to go, the guys will call a cab, right to the dive shop.

Ask for a room at the bottom of the hill.  It's closest to the beach, and the main pools, and with the 2nd buffet at the beach restaurant, you will only have to go "up the hill" for dinner..

Gambitt, I've looked at the Turquesa and liked what I saw.

My only concern is all the stairs.  Everything else sounds great.

I have to look at more pics to see what the beach is like.  I would prefer a shallow beach rather than a quick drop off because of the kids.

There is No drop off at the Turquesa...  You can go out 50 yards and it won't be past your knees!

The stairs aren't really that bad.  They aren't really steep, and there is lots of space between sets.  It's not just one long haul, all the way up.

We hardly even noticed the stairs last year.  There are plenty of gently sloping paths to wind your way around.  The stairs however are beautiful with trellis' and railings covered in gorgeous plants and flowers.  The gardeners do a wonderful job.  We'd see hummingbirds on the flowers by the stairs eveyr day and I'd purposely go for walks this way.

Beautiful resort, but I would caution about the stairs with little ones the age of your granddaughters.  Of course if you know ahead of time and are prepared for it, no big deal and it is a beautiful resort.  But the stairs, with little ones...aie caramba!  When I was there, that was the one recurring theme with families with young children.  Having said that, your party includes enough adults that it could be easier to manage.
