We got home yesterday, but have only found time now to post.
Great weather - only had about 20 mins of rain one morning the whole week.
Any questions?
-
welcome back, and my only question is when are you going back? :D
-
Welcome back. Glad you had a good time at the PP.
I popped in there about 6 times during my visit next door to have a chat to my many friends there.
One guy even called me a 'traitor' because I've now switched to the PCV!!!
They do have plans for an extension and the building of a Japanese restaurant but when that will be who knows.

Hi Traveller. Did you have a good time?
I'm on a countdown to the PP, less than 4 weeks now until my first time in Cuba. Couple of questions.
Did you have a nice room location and if so, which block?
How did you find the food?
How did you find the temperature on an evening?
Am I right in thinking they do a bicycle tour of the local area. Is this daily? Does it take in any local villages?
Hope you can help.
-
Thought of another one.
Any favourite cocktails?
-
JJay:
The bicycle tour leaves at 9.30am. I think it goes once or maybe twice a week. It takes in the local village of Melilla and visits the school there and a farm.
I believe you have to go to the gym to register. See my friend Erasmo - he will know me just as Ken. He is a really wonderful guy and only works in the gym. When it is not his shift it will usually be Marcial or maybe even Labusta (another close friend of mine).
The evening temperature will be pleasant when you go - you will not need anything long sleeved.
IMHO it really doesn't matter which building you are in, but I would definitely go for a first floor room.

JJay, Playa Pesquero makes the best Orange Daiquiris I have ever tasted -- Daiquiri de Naranja.
I also tried their Frozen Papaya Cocktail -- Coctel de Papaya Helado . It was very good too! :)

Don't forget to ask for a "Crazy Canadian" at the lobby bar. Very good. :9:
-
But JJay is an English Rose!!!!!
-
"English Rose" is that a cup or tea...? :rof:
-
I sure hope not. :rof: :rof:
Thanks for the bike info Bellagio. Will definitely do that, and take some gifts alongwith me for the villagers.
-
I mostly drank Bubba's of Cristal, but would switch to Mayabe when I could find it.
I also had the odd Pina Colada and Crazy Canadian. The only wine I liked was a Sauvignon Blanc from Chile we had at the Gondola.
We were in building 17 - Room 1720. We looked right out onto the Pool Bar - great room I thought!
The food was good as can be expected for Cuba - we never went hungry and could always find something good to eat.
My wife wore a light jacket in the evening, but I didn't find it cool at all.
Hopefully a full review will bein repared of the next week or so.
Flopnfly: I'm trying to talk two other couples in going back next February instead of doing the Mayan Rivera that they want to do.

I can also say that Erasmo is a lovely guy, I blubbed like a baby on his shoulder when I was bitten by jaws!!
You will love the PP we stayed in building 15 (I think - can't find the welcome leaflet that I have out away for another holiday), it was a nice stroll from most things - and it ment we had just enough time to eat my pineapple and orange ice cream before we got back to the room.
Have a mimosa for me - (bucks fizz) and a millwoods coffee after breakfast in the lobby bar. I also invented my own drink from the poolside bar, a millwoods & pina colada (minus the rum as the alcohol comes from the millwoods) - coffee and coconut - I want to go back now..
The PP is a great place - we would def go again, this year in Oct we are going to the Cayo's instead - we did have great company in our bellagio though, and also Cookie and Newfiegirl from Debbies.
If you see Jaws though, you have permission from me to deep fry him :p - foot still aches now and again.
-
You were in building 56 Nancy - I was in building 33.
-
Do you have to leave your passport overnight when you arrive at the PP? Not something I've ever had to do before at a hotel but just read a thread about this on another forum. People saying that passports were then just left on the counter for everyone to rummage through and collect the following morning, no particular hotel named. But it does sound a bit scary specially with passports being used for ID fraud.
-
You just fill in the form you get when you check in and put in your passport number.
I'm not even sure if they look at your passport at the hotel.
Don't worry JJay everything at the PP is organised and they certainly will not keep your passport.

So I missed meeting the World Famous Bellagio while I was at PP.

Hardly that my friend.
It would have been nice to have met but once Debmich arrived at the PCV I didn't trip off down to the PP at all.
-
Favorite cocktail.....Go see my friend Leo at the pool bar. Ask him for "Heaven", and tell him his big bald friend from Toronto and his father say hello!!!
:cubadreamin:
mister.
-
I'll bite, mister. What's "Heaven"? :D
Is it well-known?
Is it something you concocted, or is it a PP special?
Is it something I might be able to order at the IV in 1 month, 2 weeks and 3 days?
-
Leo was off the week I was there, but Alfredo was working (he was there 2 years ago).
When doing the Kids Club Horse & Buggy ride into Meliea (sp) I saw Leo outside of one of the houses.
-
It's one of those 'blue' coloured drinks. I forget the ingredients.
It may be a PP special for all I know - looks good though!!!
-
Thanks bellagio. If you get a chance at the PCV to ask, I'd be interested to know what's in it. I need to be prepared for IV next month. :D
-
As I recall, it's rum, Orange juice, Pina Colada slush, and Blue curacao. It is a house specialty, and according to my father in law, it is very aptly named. Seeing as how he drank at least 10-15 of them a day, I would say that makes him an expert!! I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed them myself. I am sure they can make them anywhere. Traveller, that was probably his place, as he lives in that area with his wife and daughter.

We have been to PP twice now and never were asked for our passports.
check in is very smooth and easy going too
Love the beach, ocean water, pool and of course the pool bar !!!

enjoy your stay!
