Hello bellagio,
Enjoyed your photos. We were in Santiago quite a few years ago and it is a beautiful city. You got to see much more of it than we did as we were on a tour ...flew in for the day from Varadero.
Thank you.

:) More great pictures Bellagio! You really do have an "eye" for a good shot. I see you went here on an excursion. How far would it be from the PCV and would you recommend the trip? (besides all of the beautiful scenery of course)
-
It's over 200 kilometres from the PCV and it is over a three hour drive.
Personally I would rather have driven there myself and then I could have gone to where I wanted.
We only had an hour in the town itself after visiting the Fort then lunch then visited the Cementerio Santa Ifigenia (cemetery).
I didn't take photos here but Debmich did. The changing of the guard ceremony was impressive but cemeteries are not my cup of tea - I would rather have spent more time exploring the town.
The trip was well worth the 69 CUC's though, I have to say that, and the lunch was simple but very good.

Thanks Bellagio. Seeing your photos makes me really want to spend some time in Santiago and the eastern areas of Cuba.
Great stuff.

Thanks for the beautiful pics. Brings back nice memories of our visit in Feb.05. We spent the day in the city on a guided tour. We were lucky there were only six of us with the guide (Julita who was great) and driver. Our resort was only one hour away so we got to the city early around 9:15 a.m. and got back after 5:00 p.m.
My favorite place was the Castillo del Morro.

Mr B,
Your photos are beautiful. Thank you for sharing them with us. I need to put this excursion on my list.

Debmich has sent me her photos of Santiago de Cuba and asked me if I would put them online for her as her connection is slow and it takes ages for her to upload them.
There are some lovely shots here of the Cementerio Santa Ifigenia, including the wonderful changing of the guard ceremony.

Excellent photos from both Bellagio and Debmich.
thank you both for sharing, it's almost as good as being there with you. :)

It sure was a lovely day - and very hot too.
The journey was a long one, and it was on a small minibus. There were 11 of us on the trip plus the lady guide who was very good.
As I said earlier it was well worth the 69 CUC's.
One useful tip though - because you are unlikely to return to your hotel until well past 7pm I would recommend that you do not book any evening a la carte restaurants on the day of your trip as you may well find yourself with little or no time to get ready.
We actually went straight to the buffet on our return for dinner (supper!!!!).

Awesome pics, thanks B and Deb (deb, jaxon is just soooo adorable) :)
I would like to know just who lives in some of those houses in Santiago ;) quite a difference from the average cuban house
Looks like a great city to visit and I wish I had taken that trip last year.

Hi all, just popping in for a minute!
I have promised myself and my husband that I was going to take a break from the boards for a bit!
But I was just going to upload a few more pics and I thought I would answer Wendy on her question!
These beautiful homes have either been turned into museums, shops, or restaurants! They have been restored beautifully and give you an idea of what Cuba could have been like if all the buildings has been kept up!
We had such a great time visiting Santiago, but it was sooooo hot! No breeze, just very hot still air! I really enjoyed the whole day and having B along was great! What I didn't get pics of he did! LOL
Anyway, please keep in touch by email if you want!
