Title: Playa Pesquero vs Playa Coste Verde
Post by: Milli on August 14, 2006, 03:52:00 PM
  As I am watching for a package to the Holquin area in late October these two resorts are coming up at a fairly good price with PP being about $200 more pp.  I was wondering how these two resorts compare and if the price difference is worth it.  I know that board members have visited both resorts and have had very positive experiences.  Besides any other opinions I am really interested in which offers the best beach and swimming.  Thanks

Thanks Bulldog.
I know I can't make a mistake in either resort but it is nice to have some "insider" information  ;)

Hi Milli
When in October are you hoping to be in Guardalavaca, as we may be there as well? We are looking at the 29th into Holguin out of Toronto.
As far as your question about which resort is better, I think Bellagio is the expert on these 2 places. We prefer to stay right in Guardalavaca at either of the 2 hotels there, (Club Amigo or Las Brisas)!

Both are excellent hotels IMHO.  There are things I love about both of them and I will always chose the PCV myself above the PP.

However if I were to be honest I would be happier recommending the PP.

Why? Because the rooms are much better (it is a newer hotel).   Also the buffet food is miles better at the PP.

Remember the PP is 4 star plus, whilst the PCV is only 4 star - so you do have to take that into consideration.

FredTracie: I am currently looking at  Oct 22 or 29 out of Moncton.   The 8 day package at Breezes Jibacoa is still very tempting as it is an exceptionally good deal but I am anxious to see the Holquin/Guardalavaca area of Cuba.  Vacations for both areas are through AC vacations.   :cubadreamin:

We are also looking at/watching the 9 or 7 day trip to Jibacoa Oct. 27/29 departure?? The options are just starting!!! Isn't this fun, and it's only August????

Maybe a Get- Together is in the offing??

That's fine Bellagio.  I realize you are getting ready to return to Canada and I am not in a hurry to book  :)    One quick question though--Which resort has the best beach for walking, swimming, and shade?

Fredtracie: Yes, it is fun planning a trip and I really hesitate to add that October is not all that far away  ;)

Hi Milli,

We've stayed at both resorts.  I would have to agree with Bellagio on all counts.  The resorts share a beach so the swimming/beach is the same at both.  I actually prefer the Coste Verde as it is smaller and less crowded, but the food is better at the PP.  Personally I don't go to Cuba for the food, so it doesn't matter to me.  I found the line ups for drinks and waiting to book an al a carte at the PP much longer then the PCV.  Since the PCV is a smaller resort it seems to have a friendlier feel, then the PP, IMO.  The rooms at the PP are nicer and bigger, but really all we we using them for was sleeping and showering, so it didn't matter.  Except when we were at the PP we did have Logan with us.  If you are interested in the Holguin area I also highly recommend the Grand Playa Turquesa, it is a lovely resort with a great beach and wonderful pools.  The food is also really good.
 Hope this helps some.

Yes, thank you, that certainly is helpful.  Actually Grand Playa Turquesa has the best prices of all the resorts on Your Travel Tickets and from Moncton.   :cubadreamin:

Of the 3 resorts I would return to the Turquesa in a heartbeat.

There have been a lot of complaints recently about the Turquesa.  When I was at the PCV last several Brits requested a move to the PCV because the food was freqently cold and of a low standard.

I have to stress this (June) was low season and IMHO things were not that brilliant at the PCV because of this self same reason.

However I know one of the reps very well who has just been assigned to the Turquesa and he confirmed that in June many Brits were not happy there.

Although not part of Milli's original question - I would take PCV hands down over GPT anyday.  As Bellagio stated there have been a lot of complaints and they weren't only from the Brits - we were not impressed at all with our stay at GPT to the point that I wrote Signature and they provided us with a refund of sorts on our trip!!

Have not stayed at the PP but did tour it - it's HUGE - too big for me.  We found the food at PCV to be more than adequate, the Japanese a la carte was awesome and the staff - well, they just made our trip!!  We also found the rooms to be more than adequate!!!

 Simply my 2¢ .....
