Set your watches... Found this on Granma.
• Cuba is going back to the regular schedule
AFTER three years of remaining on a summer daylight savings time schedule, Cuba’s National Electrical Union decided to go back to its normal schedule during this month of October.
On Saturday night, October 28 going into Sunday, October 29, at 01:00 , watches should be set back one hour – going back to 00:00 hours – returning to the normal schedule, which in Cuba is known as the winter schedule.
The measure of using daylight savings time has become generalized in several countries, given that during summertime, days are longer and it is easier to take advantage of the sunlight.
In winter, the days are shorter because sunset comes earlier and the electricity demand goes up because of less natural light.
In Cuba, because of electricity generation shortages, it was decided to maintain the summer daylight savings schedule for three years; however, the country is now in a position to produce all the energy it needs, which is why it was decided to go back to the regular schedule.
The remodeling of thermoelectric plants and their adaptation for consumption of Cuban crude oil; the installation of alternative generating plants and the repair of distribution networks have made it possible to increase and guarantee electricity generation in the country. (Navil García)

Being no mathematical genius....does this mean that they will now "spring ahead" and "fall back" as we do now?
-
Yup, that's exactly what it means!
-
Thank you Gambitt, we will be going down to Cuba in November and I know I would have been out an hour. Dan F
-
Having the same mathematical qualities as Crestfield, does this mean we get an extra hour in Cuba on November 3rd, our departure day? :)
Does it also mean that in the wee hours of October 29th when I want to be at the airport 4 hours early instead of 3 hours early we will really be there 5 hours early? :b: :b:
-
Thanks for that Gambitt. I certainly didn't want that to happen as it will be darker one hour earlier.
Bad news as far as I'm concerned.
-
Millybess....
I would recheck your times carefully. It appears that Cuba is going to change time at 1 am, reverting to 12 am; instead of waiting till 2 am to go back to 1 am , as we do here.
If you are leaving on the morning of the 29th, you wil have that extra hour, before your flight. Your return flight might appear to be one hour later, but it will actually be at the same time.
And Ken, with you being such any earlybird, I thought the morning daylight would be more to your taste?
:)
-
Definitely not Eric. I like my extra hour of daylight in the evening.
I'm not happy with this decision at all, but what can I do?????
-
Okay Gambitt soooo:
Our flight leaves at 6:30 a.m. What's the sense of sleeping, right? So I was thinking (over the groans of the other MB) that we would be at the airport at 2:30 a.m. So if that is the day we "fall back", then we will really be there at 1:30 a.m. (if I can pull it off :D ), right?
If my ticket that I received before your article (e-ticket BTW with no visa that we apparently have to pick up at the airport which is a first :D
-
You have totally lost me Millybess.
-
:b: :b: :b: :b: :b: :b:
-
If you leave your house, based on the current time, you would indeed be at the airport at 1:30 new (fall) time.
As to the return, I would suspect that your flight will leave at 20:45.

I guess you'll have to take it up with Fidel :p

Bummer! :(

Millybess
It means that the sun will be up earlier (no sleeping in Messybill) and of course it will get darker earlier!!! As far as leaving we will see you at the airport at still some ungodly hour! Just remember nothing really starts at the airport until about 4am, which in this case is 5 am unless we spring forward, but we are to Fall back???? See you in line ! save a spot in line!! When you figure it out let us know??????
:1: ...F&T
-
F&T, I hope life is kind to you and you get off work early. I'll be in the Skyservice line-up :)

I wish we could, but I would have to be back for Nov 1st. :(

I can save two more spots in line. We'll be there sooooo early that even when JC has to go back for his luggage, we'll still have time. [Wink]
:p

I don't have a problem with Sat at 2, but I think my employers would object. :D
-
OMG! You guys are too funny. I can't keep up.
I can't remember how many hours ahead or behind Cuba is from WinterPEG, TO is one hour ahead of me, right?
My flight, much to my dismay, stops in Varadero before Holguin(my destination) and my itinerary states this is a 7 hour flight, which sucks! I am hoping that with the change in time it will be shorter.
So my question is: after the fall back time change and it is 1000am in WinterPEG what time is it in Cuba?????
-
Ok, Ok, Ok, I think I've answered my own question. Cuba is currently one hour ahead of Manitoba (Same time as TO?) so when they fall back and we fall back they will still be only one hour ahead of me. In the past years that I have visited they did not fall back and were two hours ahead of me. I've been out of school far to long! This is like a brain twister. :rof: :rof: :rs:

Won't that fall under the same category as the dreaded "lounger saving with towels" and start a revolt in the line up :1:
-
Our Millybess can handle any of those thugs. :D

:1: See you there!
-
You only have 4 days to wait before you leave. You're so lucky. We'll see you on the 29th! :6:
-
Now have my own computer up and running in St. Albans.
Looking forward to meeting everyone on Sunday evening.
-
Are you there until you leave for Cuba?
-
How's your daughter-in-law?
-
Not 100% sure. Took d-in-law to hospital this morning and she did not need cast, but they have put a temporary 'thing' around her leg so she won't be able to drive for 4 weeks.
I have everything with me except I've ordered a larger Xd card for my camera which hasn't arrived yet.
However it's not worth the petrol driving a round trip of 160 miles just to pick that up, when it arrives.
My son has to go away on Friday night for the weekend so I'm needed, a la Millybess, to ferry grandkids around for football and football practice, etc.
-
Hmmm, yes I am quite experienced at this as you well know :)
Keep us informed. It does seem like a lot to go home and then come back again for your flight -- I'm assuming you're flying out of Gatwick rather than Manchester?
Our best to dil. It sounds like she will be somewhat confined with that thing around her leg. :(
-
Thanks. At least while I'm here, just like at your house, I get to drink plenty of good quality red wine!!!
Yes I am flying from Gatwick, although with terrible Monarch Airlines.

:rof: True! I do recall comparing wines during your past visits to St. Albans. Have a good visit!
What's wrong with Monarch? Are they as bad as Canadian Affair, leaving you stranded in Calgary? Are you anticipating compensation? :rof:

It could be worse... You could be flying Sky "Lack Of" Service!!!

Change of Plan:
AS F&T are staying at the LUNA. We are now meeting at the LUNA lobby at 7pm on Sunday night, October 29th.
Milli, Millybess, Messybill, F&T and Bellagio please note!!!!
-
This is more confusing than the time change because I always thought we were meeting at Luna! :D
-
Millybess:
It was F&T who originally suggested meeting at the Mares.
Only yesterday did I question why if they were staying at the Luna would we meet at the Mares?
Fred came back to me and agrred, so now it's the LUNA at 7pm.
Mind you once I'm in Cuba and without my laptop to check on the arrangements I'll probably turn up at the PRDO!!!!
LUNA, LUNA. LUNA!!!!
-
Thanks for clearing that up! :)
You only have 5 more days. :)
-
I don't have any photos at the moment. Bit cheeky to go there and take photos I felt.
I'll take plenty whilst I'm staying there though.
