I was talking to a friend who got home from Sol Cayo Guillermo last Sunday and she told me that Villa Cojimar is closed. She also mentioned that there were guards on the beach who were preventing people from accessing the resort - even to walk through the garden to the road.
We had considered returning there for our Christmas trip this year and are now wondering what would have happened if we had. When we booked DR the Cojimar was still being offered for these dates.
Does anyone know what's going on? Will it be opening again, and if so, will it have been upgraded out of our price range?

I hope it reopens.
We've been planning on going there for a few years now, but never made it yet.
I checked it out in April on our way to the Sol, and it looked ok.

irie,
A couple of questions if you don't mind. :D
Is there still a dive shop at or near the cojiimar?
I heard somewhere that it had closed down.
and what type of weather does that area get in January? Water temps especially, we live in the water and don't want to freeze to death.

Sounds like the Sol Guillermo, Heather, which was a lovely resort...
I learned a lot about resorts by going on that trip and seeing how much the "star" rating means.
From that to the RH....but I enjoyed myself just as much at Sol..
good to hear about the Villa, I really hadn't looked at that one yet.
thanks,
Karen :)

Karen, when we were on the bus heading to the Sol we stopped at Cojiimar to drop somebody off and there was some issue so we had a wait.
Of course Wendy and I decided to investigate the Cojiimar while we were waiting. :D
I liked what I saw. Nothing fancy, but it looked like a great place to be a beach bum for a week.

F&F: I just remembered. There's a shop right on the beach, in the middle of Cojimar. We use it for catamaran rides, nothing else.
I am muling down a couple of things for one of the staff at the shop, and since they are not employed by Cojimar, it dawns on me that this must be the water activities/dive shop.
Any specifics for me to check out on your behalf?
Irie
