The diver looks vaguely, but can't tell for certain because she's not holding a mojito!
-
I assume it's flopnfly.
If it is - Many congratulations.
If it isn't - Who the heck is it???
-

WAY to go Heather :D
-
Yup, it's me. :D
It was hard work, but I did it. I am now an official PADI certified open water diver!!!! and I lived to tell the tale. :rof: :rof:
I did my certification through Ocean Encounters at the Lions Dive Resort.
A four day course from 8 am to 6 pm. Brutal!!! but I learned a lot and I'm glad I finally did it.
-
We are all very proud of you Heather, BRAVO!!!

we tried that, but it just got much too salty...
;)

So tell us or show us what you saw :)
-
I didn't see any sharks, but I did see the biggest Barracuda I've ver seen.
There was a huge ball of fish with a barracuda circling around it, he was at least 2 ft long. I got up real close to him but not too close. :D
No turtles, no sharks, but I did see a tomb stone down there. Apparently some dead guy is there.
-
TOMB stone..?
was there writting on it..?
Better luck next time wioth the sharks :D
But maybe that was a good thing :rof:
-
I'm glad I didn't see a shark. The tomb stone was bad enough.
I found out later that the guy who owned the land and dive shop had died, and they cremated him in his wetsuit and dive gear and buried his ashes in the ocean. They put up the tomb stone to mark the spot. It had his name, dates etc on it.
Quite eerie.
The coral and the fish were amazing!!!! I've never seen anything like it snorkelling before.
I was hoping to see some dolphins again, but they never showed up.

Didn't you email Flipper beforehand to tell him you were coming? lol
-
Flipper was busy this trip. :D
The dive shop was part of the marine park. They did offer dolphin dives for $180 US.
They would take two of the trained dolphins out into the open ocean and you got to dive with them.
Not quite the same as the wild dolphins.
-
congratulations Heather :)
You already look like a pro :)
:notworthy:

It looks like you had a fun time doing this Heather. Quite an accomplishment!
-
The gear is very heavy. I was carrying an extra 60 lbs around and because it was all shore dives, I had to walk quite a distance from the dive shop to the beach with it on.
My poor back is bruised beyond recognition.
-
Well I for one would love to dive. I have often enjoyed documentaries on diving and really love the diving pics posted on this website. However, I'm not a good swimmer, I'm a little claustrophobic and a bit asthmatic, sooooo I compromise by snorkeling (surface snorkeling lol)which I love and find soooo relaxing.
I got an idea of the weight of your diving equipment last week when we watched the divers walk from the dive shop to the boat which was in shallow water. There were two tiny women divers who were wearing their full wetsuit and equipment. They were walking ever so slowly in the sand under the very hot sun. I'm guessing they were very happy once they got into the water.

congratulations heather!!!!!!!! :notworthy:
welcome to the no tanning time club!!
we got certified here but always seem to only get wet when we are in warmer climates. the dry suits have a little dust on them from lack of use!!!!
have you sent your wish list to santa yet??? bcd, regs, shorty wet suit?????
hmmmm, must go to the local dive shop myself soon....

thanks david,
yes I have my wish list all written out. :D
I'll be writing up my review on open water certification, just in case anybody else might be interested in doing it and wonders what's involved.
I'm not sure if I'll include the part about me swallowing half the ocean. :rof:
