Title: Air Canada
Post by: flopnfly on May 07, 2006, 11:39:00 AM
Am I reading this right?       Does this mean that I am allowed 2 bags for a total of 100 lbs?

We're flying with Air Canada to Cozumel.

 Checked Baggage Allowances

Customers are allowed to check the following amounts of luggage free of charge:

Hospitality Service (to and from all destinations except Brazil and Japan)*

 2 bags
 For each bag:
  Maximum weight      50lb (23kg)
  Maximum linear dimensions      62in (158cm)

That is the way I read it Heather...

And for the c class it's a little more..

 Executive Class/Executive First (all destinations)

3 bags, total weight of all three bags not to exceed 150 lb (69kg)

 For each bag:

  Maximum weight   70lb (32kg)
  Maximum linear dimensions   62in (158cm)

I read it the same way Heather, because you have the option of substituting one of your 50 lbs. cases for your dive bag.

Hola Everyone........

 I have 2 bags 70 lbs each, plus a carry-on 22lbs. Oh yes, a purse and a pouch also.

Bulldog: Are we allowed more than 22 lbs for a carry-on?.

I hope the weight allowance is correct because I am maxed out!

Sherry, you are allowed two pieces of carryon luggage each weighing 22 lbs.

Items permitted but not considered part of the allowance include harness,    :D   camera, coats, purses (25cm x 30cm x 20cm - 10" x 12" x 8" or less), urns containing human remains, strollers, child restraint systems, canes, crutches, walkers, containers carrying life sustaining items and other similar items.

I just can't believe how much allowance you guys are getting.  I realise, of course, that Air Canada are more generous with their allowances as they are a scheduled and not a charter operator.

On our flight we are getting 30 kilos, but only 5 kilos hand luggage.

I'm having to travel light again so, hopefully, Wossa can use some of my allowance for his dive gear.

Looks like I shall be having to do my laundry in the bathroom sink again (a la PCV) unless one of you kind ladies volunteers!!!!

Sherry can do the washing and I'll do the ironing.  I like to iron.     :D

Just found this on  www.visitmexico.com (http://www.visitmexico.com) but don't know how uptodate it is:

Taxes: When leaving the country, you must pay departure and airport taxes, which cost about US$13 and US$8.50, respectively.

Doubt if there are irons in the rooms:

Standard rooms in bungalow-style two storey buildings are attractively furnished and sleep up to 2 adults and 1 child with 1 king-size or 2 double beds, private bathroom with shower, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, mini-bar (with soft drinks and beer), satellite TV, telephone, safe, hairdryer and balcony or terrace with hammock.

Hola

I copied this from another forum regarding Departure Tax in Mexico.

I don't know exactly how much it is, but I do know that it has already been paid in your 'ticket package' if you go A.I. Actually, I prefer it to how Cuba and the D.R. do it. In my mind, I know that I did pay a departure tax from Mexico, but it doesn't seem like it when you don't have to put aside money for it, and then literally hand it over at departure.  Dumb, I know, but it works for me!!

Maybe it's different for you Canadians that are flying on a scheduled airline, but we will definitely have to cough up.

I have just checked in the First Choice brochure and it says:

Departure Tax and Visitor fees:  Aprox $45US (subject to change) payable locally on departure.  This tax is applicable for all ticket holders.

Thomas Cook brochure says it is included in their holiday price.

I'll put the money aside just in case, but I'm pretty sure it's included.  I know in Jamaica it's included in your package.  We never had to pay at deaprture except in Cuba and DR.

Funny, but I don't remember paying it in the DR either, just in Cuba.  We might have, but I don't remember it.  I know it was included in Jamaica.

Doubt you will have to pay as you are flying scheduled and it will be included in your package.

Hola

When we get on the bus to go to the resort I am sure we will be told if we have to pay a departure tax.

Things could have changed by now.

Hey Heather

I still have had no further replies (on the other forum)as to the Departure Tax in Mexico.

Lets throw caution to the wind......

We can spend all our money in Mexico but save some of those pencils you were donating to the Orphanage.   :1:

We may have to sell them at the Airport in Mexico to get money to get out of the Country.   :7:  ...........

I'm sure we'll be told at our orientation meeting, if not I'll ask.

I think I read somewhere that we can use the ATM machines to get money out, so we should be ok even if we do spend all of our money.

I have no idea how much to bring, so I'll just pack another suitcase full of money.  Bulldog, do you mind carrying another suitcase?     :D      :rof:    :rof:

well, maybe Gambitt, Wossa and myself will find some lost spanish gold while we're diving, then we won't have to worry about saving some money for the departure tax...    :rof:

Don't forget us 'non' divers will want our share of any pieces of eight you might locate!!!!

The Cubans believe in sharing and as we are all Cubalovers I think we should follow their lead!!!!!

it would be a group "find" Mr B.  Not to worry.

Mind you, as Flygt pointed out, it may just extend our stay in Mexico...     ;)
