Title: Cruise on the Nile?
Post by: MCB on July 02, 2005, 11:54:00 AM
After going through numerous travel and forum sites for Greece..our original agenda for 2006 with our Brit friends..I'm getting a little discouraged with my findings.Think we're "spoiled" with the all inclusive resorts in Cuba and Mexico that we've been going to in the past years.
I'm just so used to having fresh towels daily,a drink whenever,meals/snacks prepared and ready and the AC units cooling my room off.
Anyway..looked at alternative sites..a cruise with some adventure and spotted some advertisement for cruises on the Nile.
Has anyone been on a cruise in this part of the world?
Have to get my act together here...as  many in Britain are booking their 2006 travel plans as we speak.

MCB, I don't know anything about cruising on the Nile, but if it helps you at all, we know some families who rent houses for a couple of weeks in the spring (dirt cheap) in different parts of Europe and then travel around from there.

I'd like to do the same thing in Italy some year.  If this interests you at all, I could probably get you a website.

Hello millybess,
We're just looking at a short package (7 days planned in England with our Brit friends and then a 7 day trip elsewhere with all of them) for September 2006.

Your idea sounds great though for a month in Europe.
Wish I had the time..ideal way to see Europe.
 Thank you.  :)

Don't know about Cruise on the Nile, but Brits have been warned away from Egypt at present, though I don't think many are taking the warning seriously.

I have always fancied Egypt, alot of Brits seem to head for Sheik El Sharma and El Gouda which are resorts on the Red Sea and are ALL INCLUSIVE and are usually 4*.  Friends came back fortnight ago the temp was in the later 30's, they loved it, they said the diving was out of this world, and they have dived all over.  It is about 5 hour flight from the UK.

How can you folk possibly want to stay anywhere else than CUBA!!!

I'm sorry European resorts leave me cold.  It's either Canada or Cuba for me.

Cuba with Canadians - a perfect recipe for 14 Days in Paradise.

Hello huskypup and bellagio,
This bit of research I'm doing on Greece and cruises on the Nile has been quite an "eye opener" for me.
Guess, I've taken a lot of things forgranted..going to Cuba and Mexico..the safety and comfort aspect of staying in the Caribbean.
A lot of us who complain about the food, room decor, service, upset tummies and scams when in Cuba should look at some of the trip reviews and experiences that the British travellers have undergone while travelling...there are some real "vacations in hell" out there.
I seem to sense from what I've read that British travellers put up with a lot while travelling.I know my response,as a Canadian would be.."I'm out of here!" when encountering poor travelling conditions.
Bellagio...have to agree with you..Cuba+Canadians (most) do make a great formula.
Ah well..shall pursue my research for a getaway "across the pond"...must broaden my world of travel.

Have been looking at Egypt and have finally booked for next easter in Hurghada, not to worried about the warnings at the moment
 found out some info on
    http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=32 (http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=32)
which has a full section on crusies.
We decided that Cuba and the Red sea were two places we wanted to visit, Cuba was fantastic and we will be going back, but we can't rule out visiting other places as well

We would love to do Egypt, but it's so expensive from here.  We could get 4 Cuba trips for the price.

Hello Garin,
Yes, the site you mentioned in your post is veryinformative and entertaining...have been in there for a few days.
Flopnfly is correct about the expense of a Nile cruise if booking from Canada. We're hoping to book any trip we take (Greece or Egypt) from England (through our Brit friends)when visiting them..as there are quite a few English charter companies who offer reasonable trip prices.
Wonderful to hear you've booked for next Easter..we're going to decide our destination by Nov/Dec for our forthcoming trip in Sept. 2006.
Great to be able to book that far ahead in England.

At the moment the deals in the UK are pretty good if you book early, we looked a Greece some of the best prices we found are on,
http://www.olympicholidays.co.uk/ (http://www.olympicholidays.co.uk/) as we are going early we decide on Egypt will save Greece for later
I'm sure you will find the right deal and have a great time where ever you decide to go

Thank you Garin,
I appreciate your help.We spoke to our Brit friends yesterday (who don't use a computer..will have to get them onboard this coming year)and informed them about all the great sites.
I certainly think the electronic age of communication has made travel so much easier for a lot of us.
   :)
