Title: Question about Selloffs
Post by: Milli on July 11, 2005, 09:48:00 AM
  I have a quick question.  I got very interested watching the sell off prices last year after we had booked and thought we would try that route this year.  I thought it might add to the fun not knowing exactly where we were going until a month or less before.  I am seeing a 2 week booking at IV online at several sites and at a price that I cannot see going much lower.  What I did not notice last year is if the selloff prices were for 2 week packages as well???

Most of the really good selloff prices will be for one week.

The reason being is that it's not the hotel rooms they are selling it's the seats on the plane.  If they have 10 seats empty one week before departure they will reduce the price enough to cover their costs.  If the plane is full from advanced bookings, you won't see as many selloffs listed.

I only get 2 weeks vacation a year, so I like to split them up and take 2 seperate vacations.  I would love to be able to do 2 weeks or at least 10 days.

:)  I think if I had only 2 weeks a year I would split them up as well--I know I would.  I have switched to working on a casual basis which is ideal for me at this stage and so I am more flexible with vacation time.  We found that we needed the whole week to relax and unwind and I hated to leave the resort, especially on sunny, hot days. Although, the price for IV is very tempting right now I think I will hold off- a bit.
Wow--I just went to look for a gremlin and I see we have Steve driving the bus????  Didn't he fail the test  :rof:

I was just checking prices on the selloffs.  Sunwing has the Sunwing Surprise with some pretty good prices.

Sept 18  Sunwing Surprise to Cayo Coco  $477 plus tax.

Now if I could just talk Bellagio into going to Cuba instead of staying in Toronto we'd be sitting on the beach the day after CN3.

What do you think Bellagio?  A week in Cuba, or a week scrubbing my pool and hot tub?     :rof:    :rof:

Heather I was checking out that sunwing surprise too. I would almost guarantee it would be the Cojimar which is a 3 star but people who have been seem to like it. A coworker said it's a seafood lovers dream  :)
The Cayo Coco one would probably be the only one I would chance... I think the Holguin would be the Club Amigo (in the hotel section) and the Varadero would be the Club Amigo Varadero both of which are NOT 24 hour all inclusives... I tend to stay up imbibing in alcohol past 11:00 pm and wouldn't want to have to start forking out more cash for booze  :)

Cojiimar has been on our list of places to go for a couple of years now.  It's a smaller friendly comfy resort.  I figure if this is the worst that they can throw at us, then I'll be happy.     :D

Flopnfly:

Sorry I haven't replied earlier but have only just found this thread.    I have checked out the Sunwing site and all the Surprises are now listed at $518 plus taxes ($185) = $703.

The Varadero one is no good as the flight leaves on the Saturday.    I agree with Wendy that Holguin will be Club Amigo and the Cayo Coco one will be the Cojimar in Cayo Guillermo.

I am definitely up for that.   What about following up Cuba Night by partying all week in the Cayos - wonderful idea, any one else interested?   Heck it's got to be better than a week full of chores and facing up to Heather's cooking surely.   :6:

Where are you?   Still showing as £518 plus taxes on my computer.

 Departing Date: 18/Sep/2005
 Departure Time: 07:15 AM

Early start though after CN3 - may as well stay up all night and PARTY.

That's the same one I'm looking at but on   Your Travel Tickets (http://www.yourtraveltickets.com//)

It is an early start, and we'd probably get the limo to pick us up around 4 am to go to the airport.  I doubt we would get any sleep that night.     :rof:    :rof:

I see it -  $477.95 + $185 taxes + $662.95

That is so cheap - I think we should seriously consider this - don't you?

I would never get to Cuba from the UK for that price.  It is $40 more expensive on Sunwing's website so I do not see it being at this price for very long.   If it is the Club Cojimar it isn't a very large hotel, so I fancy this offer will soon be sold out.

BTW I notice the flight is with Cubana and also  via Holguin, but that isn't a big problem as far as I'm concerned.

I think the concept behind the Surprise package is that it could be any of the resorts that Sunwing carries.  It states that it is 3* - 5*, luck of the draw I suppose.  As it is a quiet time of the season I would assume that we would be offered the best they have available, but even if it is the Cojimar I would have no complaints for that price.  If you look at Cojimar it is selling for $697 for that date.

I have to find a map of the area to see where the resorts are situated.

Heather
You could also wait until the very last minute and probably get to Cuba even cheaper! I would make a significant wager if I was so inclined!!!!
The Cojimar is on Cayo Guillermo (at the beginning I believe) and certainly a decent property ! IMHO

      Cheers...F&T
PS The Club Amigo in Guardalavaca does have a 24 hour bar with excellent ron punch!!! FYI

As most of you know I will be arriving in Toronto on Friday September 16th and will be attending CN3 on Saturday.     Flopnfly has come up with the brilliant idea of taking a Sunwing Surprise and flying off to Cayo Coco for the week at a price of $477.95 plus tax of $185 making a total cost of $662.95.

Unfortunately when I did a 'dummy' booking for one person it will not allow it, so I thought that I would post a thread to see if anyone would care to share a room.  Heather and John will be going as well.

The flight is with Cubana departing YYZ on Sunday September 18th at 0715 and flying via Holguin to Cayo Coco arriving there at 1300.  Return flight leaves at 1400 on Sunday 25th arriving YYZ at 1745.

We think the hotel will be the Club Cojimar on Cayo Guillermo and this deal is $150 below the current online price.

Anyone interested please PM me rather than post as if no one takes me up on this, it will be rather embarrassing!!

I hope you have a great tennis game Mr B.

You'll be up and out and finished playing by the time us Canadians even get out of bed.     :D

Yes I did - played 2 games of Doubles and most enjoyable they were to.   Had the same partner in both matches and we were narrowly beaten on both occasions.

I had great admiration for my partner who is a really great guy.    In his day he was a very good player and he still has some wonderful touches but he suffers from Parkinsons.

I have to say I really admire him for having the courage to stand up and fight this disease and I can tell you it was a pleasure to play alongside him.
