Yikes - Jamaica seems to be getting the thumbs down at the moment. Its always the same - when you're researching your holiday you hear nothing but good things and nearer the time of you going you spot a few bad comments. Oh well at least the hotel (Riu Negril) is still getting positive feedback. I do however, plan to venture out a few times so I can only hope all goes well. I guess alot can also depend on the area you are staying in and we all know that the porters at all carribean islands are not exactly the welcome to the country that you're looking for!!!
As long as the sunshines and the beer flows I'm halfway there to having a good time. :7: :7:

JJay,
Don't worry I'm sure you'll have a great time.
Since you're going to Riu Negril, you have to check out the office of nature.
Here is their website.

The biggest thing in Jamaica, is to stay away from Kingston! That's where the real problems tend to happen. As long as you stay on the north shore, between say Ocho Rios, and Negril, that is the "tourist area" and is much safer than the southern areas.
