I was looking at pics for HI Mo Bay tonight, and it looks like they have totally refurbished. Nothing looked the same as it was when we were there in 2000. Has anyone been there recently??? I can get the 3 of us there (if I book now) for about $3000.00, and I am seriously considering it. Any opinions???
-
Haven't been there yet, but it was on the short list when we chose Curacao, (the Curacao deal was too good to pass up). We'll make it there one day. ;)
reading any reviews, it's a hit or miss on the beach, some people love it, other say that it's too small. It is supposed to be a "man made beach" much like the Royal Decameron Montego bay, but the pictures that I've seen look pretty good. It's about a 5 minute walk down the road to the "hip strip" and Jimmy Buffets Marguaritaville. It usually pops up on the last minute sell offs too, best we've seen it for is just under $500 + taxes.
-
I believe that they refurbished most of the resort in 2004.
I believe that the pools are still small, and the beach isn't the greatest, manmade I think.
Bottom line is that it's still a Holiday Inn, but it's Jamaica so how bad can it be? :D
-
We were last there in Feb 2001 --The jerk chicken was great at the hut by the beach. If your taking kids there is always lots of other kids to play with. If not there's always the adult's only pool. I would go back there again--good value for the money if your not looking for luxury. Even has the plus of a short ride from the airport.

I must corect myself, we were last at HI Mo Bay in 2002, but looking at the pics, it looks like a totally different resort. I really like the island they have built.
The most popular beach when we were there was the man made one, however I spent alot of time on the beach near the dive shop (Eric was ceritifing) and was virtually alone. No one went to this beach because of the winds off the ocean.
I would love to go back to this resort...everything was fantastic.
-
Hi Spot,
the short ride from the airport is definitely a plus! :D
ahhh, the jerk chicken, brings back memories of the Royal Decameron Runaway Bay, they had a little grill at the end of the beach, with the most amazing Jerk chicken, I think we had most of our meals there. :D

Johnny, I have to help here, although I've never stayed there. The HI Sunspree is DEFINITELY not a 5 minute walk to the "hip strip". It's out near Rose Hall and will require a taxi to get from one to the other (approximately $10 - 15 US one way). I know because I wanted to stay there and because we drove by it at least twice daily as we came & went from Zephie's daughter's place.
Having said that, the Royal Decameron is practically ON the "hip strip" by comparison!
And Lauren, I completely agree with Johnny on sell-off's. I've the HISunspree for less than $500. as well!
The price you're currently looking at is about the average for between "highest" & "the best deal I've ever seen"!
Good luck - I hope you find a great deal!
-
oops, my bad. :D
-
Lauren,
What are the rooms like at Holiday Inn?
Are they big enough for a family of 4 to sleep comfortably?
My daughter is interested in this for January but they don't want a typical Holiday Inn type room, they were hoping that it would be tropical?
How would you describe it?
-
Both times we have been, we've had an ocean view room. The first time we were there we had a partial ocean, beach view, but also the mountains, and a king size bed. The second time our room overlooked the pool and ocean, and 2 double beds. All the rooms are in 3 story buildings with elevators. It is a family orientated resort with a great kids club that has pizza and ice cream. The staff (when we were there)were really wonderful with the kids. I would go back, and I have recommeded it to others.
The first time we went we didn't have Logan, and the second time we went Logan was 8 months old and didn't go with us. But I talked to lots of people with kids and they were happy with the resort.
Hope this helps some.
-
Thanks Lauren,
It sounds like it will be great for the little kids.
Now what about us big kids? Is there a decent disco or club?
Julie wants to do kareoke, so she's hoping that it will have it a couple of nights at least.
Oh yeah, what about adjoining rooms?
-
Hi Heather,
Sorry I don't know about adjoining rooms.
There is a disco that is open till 2AM, we only went there once, so I couldn't tell you if it was any good or not.
When were there they had a karaoke contest every night after the stage show.
The food was excellent, when we were there, and there is an adult only pool with a swim up bar.
There was PADI dive shop as well (this is where Eric certified), but I didn't see dive shop listed on the resort info.

The dive shop is definately still there!
We have something for everyone!
Because we’re an all-inclusive resort, we have recreation and activities for everyone. For scuba divers, there’s an on-site PADI 5 star dive facility, as well as non-motorized water sports. Exercise enthusiasts can work out in our fully equipped gym, with stairsteppers, universals, and life cycles.

Hey John, what about doing our Rescue here?
-
sounds like a plan to me. :D
-
I am very serioulsy considering booking for Jan 21st. The price right now is 968.00 plus taxes and 668.00+ for Logan. I'm going to wait a bit and see how low the price goes.
-
Lauren, that price will come down.
I've seen it as low as $400 plus taxes.
We're watching the price too, and hoping that it comes down. I hate paying too much.
-
Heather,
Regardless if the price goes down, which I hope it will, I think we will boo :D k for the 21st of January. We haven't been to Jamaica since 2002, and I think it's time for a return trip.
-

We've discussed it, well Logan and I have, Eric is just along for the ride.....but we'll be booking this resort for Jan 21st. I'm going to wait a few weeks and let the price drop more.
Are you guys in ??
Bulldog, how about you....wanna come to Jamaica??
-
I have been thinking about it, but not sure if it's doable :D
-
Now Eric & Lauren...don't go doing things like that! Zephie walked past my computer at exactly the moment I was reading your most recent posts! He's jealous and wants to go with you guys!
Your trip to Jamaica could mean that I don't get my trip to Cayo Largo! And this would be very BAD!!!!! I'll never forgive you! :rof: :rof: :rof: :rof:
-
Char... come on to Jamaica mon...you & Zephie, come on mon. I love you guys and so does Eric. So lets all go wrestle some BUFFOLO SOILDERS and go JAMMIN, and they we'll (or some will) drink some RED RED WINE, and we'll all have a great time :6:
-
AWWW come on Bulldog, I need you, you & I :w: will be the only ones above sea level....drinks at the pool bar, I'm buying
-
Oh no Lauren...don't...stop...I can't! :rof:
If we have a last-minute change of heart (again!) I'll let you know. Until then, I'll just have to say that Zephie's daughter lives about 5 minutes from the HI Sunspree! We'll have to make some contacts for you guys before you leave!
-
So, Char, What was Zephie's email adress again?
:rof:
-
Funny Eric...Very Funny! :p
-
I've almost got my daughter and gang convinced to go to the HI Sunspree in January!!!!
Looks like we might be joining you Lauren. :D
-
That's Great!!
:dan: :dan: :dan:
Montego Bay will never be the same!
-
Heather
That would be great. If you guys are going, we'll take Logan, but if not, the in-laws will take him to Cuba with them the end of January.
Lauren
-
Starting faking & baking the other day in anticipation :D
-
Oh My....saw today the HI Mo Bay went UP $200, guess we'll have to wait until Tuesday again. But I will be booking this resort.
-
I thought by now you guys would have locked in :D
-
Lauren, I think it dropped by $200 because it was a Sunquest special. Now it's gone back up to it's regular price.
I keep watching it.
-
No we didn't book when it went down. It was all up in the air if we were going to take Logan with us, or if the in-laws were going to take him to Cuba. Logan finally decided he wanted to go with us, but then the price jumped. Such is luck. However I have nailed the little begger down, he wants to go with us & not Nona and Poppa, which I am happy about and not happy about. When he goes with them I get 2 holidays, but when he goes with us I get no holidays. This is why I need you Bulldog, I'm looking for a sitter...LOL
-
O that is why I should come with, to play sitter :D
How much are you going to pay me ?
:rof:
-
PAY YOU? Whats's that about.....tought you would be priviliged looking after the young protege!! :duh:
-
Just wait till I see you in person .... man do I have some Logan stories for you... he is one VERY INTELLIGENT kid. And I'm not say that because he is mine. Plus he is pretty funny too. He has some good one liners. :7:
-
So what going on with your Booking guys...?
:)
-
Haven't booked yet, waiting for the prices to drop. Also deciding if we are going to take Logan with us, or if the in-laws are going to take him when they go. If we take him, my mother-in-law doesn't think I will have much of a holiday. Since Eric spends most of his time under water, and I will be with Logan all day. They on the other hand, enjoy taking him as it gives them something to do. So all in all it's pretty much up in the air at the moment, but we are definately going somewhere in January, with or without Logan.
Clear as mud??
-
Yes I think I got it :rof:
-
Roatan is pricing cheaper than Jamaica at the moment. :D
-
I saw that, and the Henry Morgan Resort looks quiet nice. What do you divers think?
-
Calling all DIVERS :D
-
Technically I'm a certified diver :D
What can I do for you Bulldog?
-
I believe That Woman was asking for your opinion :D
-

I'm sure that Gambitt and Johnny would be there in a heartbeat, but how is it for the non divers? good pool, decent beach etc....
-
If there's a warm ocean nearby, I'm there!
-
Roatan?
I'm there, even if I have to bring a tent to sleep on the beach. :D
-
As long as there is a pool and a bar near by, I'm there :6:
-
Have you guys booked..?
-
Not yet, waiting till after Jan 1st, hopefully the prices will go down
-
I will say a prayer for you guys :D
:s:
-
Ahhh! Nevermind all that! I think they haven't booked yet because they are REALLY planning on meeting up with Jammy & the Missus and Zephie & I at Villa Cuba on the 6th! :6:
-
I was checking earlier and the Sol Luna y Mares in Holguin is going for $666 + taxes for the date we're looking at. Jamaica is going up in price, so it's out. We havn't been to the Sol Luna y Mares, so I'm seriouly considering it.
-
VC, just $597...next week...think about it! ;)
-
As much as I would love to Char, don't have any vacation time next week. But we'll be there with you in spirit :)
-
Well it all work out in the end :D
