Title: GSM Cellphone Coverage Map of Cuba (2006)
Post by: Steve_YYZ on March 09, 2006, 06:18:00 PM
If anybody is off to Cuba and wants to know what Cellphone coverage is like, here is the coverage map for anybody with a GSM phone. This only is for coverage of the GSM 900 mhz phones. Other GSM frequencies will not work.

GSM 900 phones are available from the following Canadian Suppliers
 Rogers Wireless Inc
 Microcell Telecommunications Inc (Fido)

and in the UK, from these suppliers
 O2 (UK) Limited
 Orange PCS Ltd
 T-Mobile (UK) Limited
 Hutchison 3G UK Ltd

In Cuba, GSM services are handled by
Empresa de Telecommunicaciones de Cuba, SA (ETECSA)
and here is their coverage map (2006) at present.

Thanks for the tip, Steve... Next time, we'll have to take Lauren's phone, instead of mine.

That map is still current I believe, but looking at the map it would appear that in Banes there is no signal at all.

I found a full strength signal in Banes - in fact I have left a cell phone there with my friend and I  can receive calls and texts from it back here in the UK with no problem (49p per text).  I can also text via the internet or my cell phone to it totally free of charge.
