We are a group of 10 (2 families) looking to travel at Christmas. I am looking for info on where to stay (children ages 7,12,2x15,2x17). Rental or AI??

Welcome to Paradise!!!
Have you been to Punta Cana before? There are a lot of nice big resorts there.
The Rius are always popular and the beach is fantastic.
You are very brave to be travelling with that many teens, I've done it and I know it's not easy. :-)

Thanks so much for replying! I have posed this question on a few boards and have not had any other response.....maybe everyone else thinks it's a bit crazy to travel with so many teens... :helpme:
Hopefully we can find a place that will suit us. All but one of the children are girls, so I am sure they will be happy as long as they can find some beach/pool and shopping! The 17 yr old boy may be out of sorts unless he can find some action such as golf, beach volleyball etc....
None of us have been to PC before. I have been to Hawaii a few times, Jamaica, Caribbean cruise, and a few main land destinations as well as Western Europe and Russia. Our friends have been to Hawaii and Cabo, as far as I know. They are more experienced when it comes to renting. For me, I have usually done AI.

Welcome to Paradise Cookfam,
although we haven't been to PC yet (Puerto Plata about 6 times) I've heard mainly good things about the Bavaro Beach area (white sand, beautiful waters, etc), I think you'll find mainly the Barcelo's there, and some of them are huge. In fact, it seems that the Barcelo's have the most resorts in that area.
Hopefully Bulldog will pipe in here, as he's been to the Bahia (sp?) in Punta Cana, and can give you some insight to that resort.

:welcome2: To 7 Days
I have been to Punta Cana once, and stayed at the Bahia Principe Punta Cana, at the time it was less then one year old. It was a great resort and I'm sure by nown they have worked all the bugs out. The beaches in Punta Cana where also very nice, white soft sand.
BD :sail:
Any questions I would be more then happy to try and help

We always do the AI, and we love it especially when you've got kids (teens) with you.
I've never been to Punta Cana, but I've been to DR 6 times, Jamaica, Cuba, Curacao, and Cozumel. Heading back to Cozumel in September.
We'll have 4 teens? with us this time. 2 of them are 20 but I still consider them teens.
I find that the kids always find something to amuse themselves, and being teens they are usually happy to laze around on the beach or at the pool.
Most AI resorts include a disco and entertainment of some sort, and usually the animation staff adopt the teens and drag them into all kinds of activities.
again welcome to 7 Days, and feel free to jump right in to some of the other topics and games. We're a friendly bunch. :tard:

Actually Heather, we only have 1 official teen with us. The "other" one is 21 :tard:

I still consider that teen  (don't tell them I said that)

Thanks for the suggestions! has anyone heard of Santa Maria Del Mar villas? My friend found this property. It is a villa rental. As well there is another Villa del Sol II. I am still apprehensive about doing a rental property, :sad1: but in comparing the $$...???
-
Hi there, I've been to quite a few resorts in Punta Cana (and booked many to even more :laughing7:)
My favourite, still, is the Ocean Sands/Blue Golf and Beach Resort, although I'm planning to go to the Majestic in November and that opinion might change then

thanks for popping in Shine, you're always a wealth of information.
Cookfam,
I'm not sure if you know Shine, but she is our resident Travel Agent  She specializes in Destination Weddings but she is a wealth of general info too.

thanks for the info everyone! being new i have not really figured out who anyone is. but it is great to have advice from all and having a resident TA on board is awesome! I am still searching out info on rentals as it seems that is the least expensive. I just haven't heard much from anyone on those. the other couple that we are travelling with are definately going to go that way. i am sitting on the fence still and would love more feedback...

In closing to this topic (for me anyway :yahoo:) We have made our decision and are going with the rental at the Villas Del Sol II. This property is located near the IFA and the Barcelo properties and for a daily fee we can access their amenities. The Villa will be a 3bdrm/2.5bath and is a new property. One of the drawbacks is that it is not on the beach. However, we just can't justify paying the price of the AI when we can have nearly the same services and save so much money. I guess as with going to the places unknown, we will just take our chances............ Thanks again for all the feedback :TY:

Have a great time, but I will stick to the AI for under $800.00 Canadian per person that includes everything :icon_thumright:

Enjoy your Trip!!!

Hi again,
Bulldog, just out of curiousity, where can you find an AI for 800 CAD? I searched high and low and the best I could come up with was about 7000 - 7500 (1400pp) for the two weeks.

One thing I didn't catch and just re read was your going over Christmas, at that is as well as March break the most costly time of year to travel, but I didn't see that you mention 2 weeks, maybe I missed that too :dontknow:
I trusted you done your home work and serched many online travel sites for cost, and found the right deal for all of you.
Not to mention booking this far in advance as many like to do when travelling at that time and with so many :icon_thumright:
I need more details to search, but I do hope you and your Familys have a great trip  I have been in the DR over Christmas but I was alone so it would be way different then the family being there to share the Holiday still
