I've just finished scanning about 70 pictures and I've inadvertently saved them as a bmp image. I'm thinking that I should have saved them as a jpg. How do I change the extension? Anyone?

there would be two ways, one by rescanning them in as a jpg, or two, by opening them in a photo editor, such photoshop (the top end), or there are a bunch of free ones out there too. then from there, export the pictures to jpg's.
I'll have a look see for some of the other editors available tomorrow and let you know what I find. If you have Microsoft office, it would come with a half descent editor, it doesn't do as much as some of the big ones do, but it would let you "export" or "save as" to other formats.

Thanks Johnny

If you are in need of an image editor that can do this, check out Image Forge, it's freeware, you'll get the initial page inviting you to upgrade to the pro version, but you can just ignore it.

looks to be pretty good in terms of what it can do, and for your situation, you can open the bmp file, then chose file--> save as and then chose to save it as a JPG and it will do the conversion for you.

Thanks for the help Johnny. When I got home from work today I checked my programs. I have a program called FinePixViewer that came with my camera. It allows me to open the file and save as a JPG. I'm all set to go. Thanks again.
