Has anybody stayed in this area, and if so where?
What is the beach and diving like?
I've heard that this is where the sharks are!!

Shark Friends Dive shop, is in Santa Lucia.... Escorted dives, to go meet the Bull Sharks!
You know I'm up for this one!

We've had Santa Lucia on our list for years, and the prices are always good.
I'm kind of addicted to shark spotting now after seeing so many of them in Cozumel

as Gambitt says, this is supposed to be where you will see the Bull Sharks. I believe they have dive trips geared to seeing them.
F&T were supposed to go to Santa Lucia a couple of years ago but due to pool closures at Brisas, went to Cayo Santa Maria instead. Our cruise girl (TOGAL 25) has been to this area and really recommended it.
Hotels, regardless of ratings listed, are pretty much (from what I understand and have read) are more like 3 star but that's never been a deterent for me anyway :)
I'm with you Heather, I want to see more sharks, the underwater kind, not the ones at the lobby bar

Have stayed at Caracol. All the resorts there are about the same rating (3). Quiet, not much happening there but if you want :sunin: then this is the place. Don't know about the :minishark: though. Enjoy

A quiet resort is good when you're on a dive trip.
Our criteria for a dive trip resort is different from a spa type vacation. When we're diving all we need is a good dive operation, a comfy bed, some good food and a couple of drinks.
The sharks are just a bonus.
thanks!!!

Just returned from my 10th visit to Santa Lucia. It is one of our favorite vacation spots because it is so laid back. Nothing fancy about any of the hotels, and I personally love Caracol the best.
Small 3 star, no fancy food, but great burgers and fish at the beach grill, and the buffett has variety, although after 2 weeks can become repetitive. I usually go for pasta....
As for diving, I've never done it, however, I do know that they have shark dives in Nuevitas bay. Good snorkelling at the reef not too far from shore.
Nice beach, good cold beer, and best staff I've ever encountered.
Happy Holidays all!
