Cdn. Passenger Arrested After Man Allegedly Brandishes Knife On Board Flight To Toronto

With all the security at airports around the world, you have to wonder how this could happen. And it's enough to make you think twice about your safety, despite the crackdown. Peel Police arrested a man on Sunday after he allegedly used a knife to threaten passengers on a flight from the Ukraine to Toronto.
Authorities say the man somehow got the weapon, described as a "butterfly knife", on board the Aerosvit Airlines jet in Kiev, but police here don't know how it made it past their security. The flight was closing in on Canada when the accused apparently got mad at another passenger on board and to the stunned surprised of everyone in the cabin, allegedly pulled out the sharpened blade.
"He was somewhat disruptive and unruly and at some point had pulled out this knife and was threatening passengers with it," P.C. Iris Johnston tells CityNews.ca. It's believed the man was consuming alcohol during the flight, but it's not clear if that was a factor in what happened.
Cops say the man was calmed down and other passengers convinced him to return to his seat. Crews were notified and they radioed ahead, after managing to get hold of the blade. When the flight landed around 4pm, Peel cops were waiting for him.
Alex Levin, a 48-year-old Thornhill resident, is facing a variety of charges, including possession of a dangerous weapon and sexual assault. He made his first appearance in a Brampton court on Monday.
