So many of us have been to Cuba, and go back year after year. And once you've been there, the reasons are obvious to return, so the question is: What got you to go to Cuba in the first place???
For me, it was a total surprise. That_Woman and I had been going on winter holidays since our honeymmon, and had been to Jamaica twice and the DR. The next year, Lauren decided that we should try Cuba. I spoke to the owner of my local Dive Shop (a native Cuban), and told him that my DW wants to go to Cuba, and IF I'm going, I want to dive, so where should we go?
He had just taken a dive group to the PCV, and said that was the place to go. SO okay, if I "have" to go to Cuba, this is the hotel we are going to.
Needless to say, we had a great time, and haven't gone anywhere else since*** . (And I should add, that it was during my research for our first trip to Cuba, that I first met some of the great people on this forum, and for that I'm eternally greatful!!!)
So what's your story?
*** Sorry for the late edit, but I forgot about Cozumel.... But we still went back to Cuba after that. :tard:

For me it was the love of thee place that John and Marion Dubois obviously have. When we got to the point that we wanted to make a trip south it was natural to ask them for suggestions.

When I first met swmbo she thought I was mad (now she thinks I am verging on insanity ) the two countries I really wanted to visit was Cuba and Libya, I didn't think that I would get to see either of them, we have been to Cuba and now Libya is opening up so in a couple of years or so who knows, it must be the rebel in me wanting to visit countries that has a regime that our government doesn't approve of

I had a friend who used to go to Cuba long before Tourism really started there.
He was always telling me to go because it was so beautiful and the diving was fantastic. But back then it was a hit or miss if they had enough food for visiting tourists, or enough gas for the boats etc.
We finally decided to go, and it was definitely a WOW experience.
