Here's a strange problem. I have found that my computer will not connect to any server with an IP name that starts with 192. (and whatever else)
Ie. www.thestar.com
I have tried it with two different browsers. IE 6.0 and Firefox 2.0 but I get the same result.
The connection has timed out
The server at www.thestar.com is taking too long to respond.
I thought maybe it was a router problem, but everything works fine from Lauren's computer upstairs?
Anyone have any ideas?

That's your problem. You're reading the wrong paper!

Try this. It is a smaller paper and doesn't take as long to load.

192.168.x.x is a series of reserved private addresses that are not routed on the Internet usually used for private networks, that are then routed out to the internet by some for of router that has a real (public) internet address on the front of it. If you're machine is reporting that the address is not available, then it's talking about your router most likely, for some reason it cannot reach it. check your ethernet cable connections, even unplug and replug them in at both ends, sometimes the contacts oxidize and break the connection. where the cable plugs in to both the computer and the router, there should be a little green light that comes on when the connection is good (it's called a link integrety light), make sure you see this on both sides.

You Da MAN, JC! Thank-you! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
I checked the ethernet cables, even swiching to the cable for my laptop, and nothing worked. All the lights would come on but no signal.
BUT, while I was under the desk looking at the wires, I noticed that this computer has 2 different Network Adapters for ethernet.
As soon as I moved the cable to the other ethernet adapter, bingo! I could log in right away.
Thanks John.
