Title: diving in punta cana
Post by: Tuss on December 07, 2009, 06:36:51 AM
I'm going to Punta Cana in March for my brother's wedding - staying at the iberostar.  Has anyone been diving in Punta Cana?  How is it - expensive, is there any reef there?  Any recommendations?

If i'm not mistaken the iberostar will have a dive shop on location, Dressel divers http://www.dresseldivers.com/
we dove with them in Cozumel, and they're a re a great dive op.  If you're planning on diving with them, you can pre-book dives, and get a 15% discount on your fees.

We haven't dove Punta Cana, but we have dove Puerto Plata, which is ok diving, not spectacular, but still a dive.

I'll second John's recommendation of Dressel.  They were Great in Coz!

I've never dove Punta Cana either, but it was in Puerto Plata that we had wild dolphins along on our dive.

just got back - Dressel divers were excellent although quite expensive.  I was down for a family wedding and needed a break from all the family stuff so did a few dives.  Actually did my "adventure diver" certification as well as my specialty "peak performance boyancy" - couldnt' do advanced open water because no deep dives there - just have to do deep and navigation to get the advanced.   Not a lot to see on the reef there, but nice to get underwater and away from the stress.  I gotta book a diving trip sometime soon to get some real dives in.
