Help Section - how do I? / ALOT popup ads
« Last post by phlatlanders on September 21, 2012, 11:37:17 PM »
This may be way off topic but ALOT popup ads just appeared on my Asus laptop and getting rid of it is impossible or nearly so. If anyone has the answer please pass it along. Very annoying as these damn popup ads appear in the corners of the screen seemingly whenever I open a commercial website, for example.

Otherwise today, Mrs Phlatlander flew to Calgary yesterday to visit our daughter. Today the dog and I drove to our cottage near Kenora.
This afternoon it was +29 in Calgary.
When I departed Winnipeg it was +7, stiff west wind. Enroute to Kenora the weather closed in and when I arrived 2 hours later it was +1 and snowing, and I'm not even in Newfoundland where such weather change is more common.

I had my doubts as well for the same reasons.

The thing I hate about diving is that it seems to carry this ridiculous stigma of bravado, someone has got to be down the deepest and for the longest and are usually dressed up like a christmas tree, loads of needless equipment kit dangling from their BCD. I am sure the tests would not be at any significant depth and there will also be rescue divers in the water, but there is always some idiot somewhere who will copy something seen on TV to showboat to friends.

The last stage of the Dive Master course you use to complete stress testing scenarios which were quite useful, but these were always conducted under test conditions. I am sure we would all react differently when faced with real issues.

I'm not sure this is a safe idea.  Having people push their limits underwater is a setup for disaster.  I know these are experienced divers, but will they recognize their own limits if they start to feel unwell or will the be so competative that they will ignore the symptoms and push themselves into decompression illness or other problems.

I'd still watch it though.

Good news they replaced everything.

I was thinking at the time the shop would try and place the blame with you and say that it wasn't sealed correctly....but as there was a part missing then they have no dispute.

Too bad the dive sucked though....unless it's tropical heat, 28 degree water, 30 metre visibility on a pristine reef, I can't be bothered with the hassle of diving any more in my own

Yup, futureshop replaced it (unusual for them but it was the next day).  There was a piece missing (the button that controls the power supply was missing, leaving a small hole that allowed the water in).

the dive still sucked and i got eaten by mosquitos trying to get into my wetsuit.

Well, the brand new gopro dive casing had a hole in it and it flooded within minutes of starting the dive.  I'm going to try and return it to the store, but it ruined the camera as well :(  And, the dive sucked as well.

I fixed mine on my BCD at the waist using a small 3 inch rod of carbon fibre which I brought from the eye of mine website. It worked Ok, I would say hand holding it would be best but I like to take photos and this was the only way I could do both. Love the GoPro, real good fun to use and you get really good results, have fun and let me know how you get on.
Sorry if I didn't get back to you in time.

If you need any pics of the way I fixed mine to my BCD I can post some if it will help.

Not sure if you'll see this in time, but I just got a GoPro with the dive housing.  I'm going for a dive this afternoon and wanted to try it out but can't figure out the best way to mount it.  what mount do you use?  Do you use the head strap?  do you mount it on your gear somewhere?  do you just let it dangle off your wrist and use it intermittently?
