Luggage weight restriction in Cuba?
« on: January 12, 2008, 10:51:26 PM »
Cubana airlines allows 2 bags at 23 kg. per person. I read that Cuba allows 25 kg. of personal items and 5 kg. for family or friends for a total of 30 kg. Any thing over is charged 10 cuc per kg. Is this true?

I think you're confusing two seperate issues.  Cubana is known for thier higher luggage allowance, so I'm pretty sure you'd be fine with the 2 bags at 23kg.   The other limit is an "import tax" that was applied by Aduana (Cuban Customs) for Cubans returning to the island.

There was a prominent sign on our check in desk last night in Holguin that said the Overweight charges were 9 CUC or $10 CDN, so that much is true .

I should have said that the 2 bags were 23 kg. each. Making it 46 kg. That seems a lot to me but that was what was said in another forum.

I think the Cuban weight restrictions are mainly being enforced in Havana for now.  There are no guarantees that they won't start enforcing it at other airports at any given time.

I know that Cubana has a higher weight allowance than others.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
