After spending the night at the Gran Club Santa Lucia we arose to a very good Buffet Breakfast before heading out for our next day. Day 3 (Tuesday) started with a drive into Nuevitas with our first stop being at a Hospital for the mentally handicapped.. At this location we picked up the local reps of MINVEC and MINSAP. (Ministry of Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation (MINVEC, Cuba), Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP, Cuba),) and as usual they provided us with a “small snack”
From the Hospital we went to a local senior’s home, Hogar de Ancianos Nuevitas, who had received a number of items from us in the last year including many beds and nightstands. We were entertained by 3 residents who sang for us, the first, an 82 year old woman, sang a song in english about how much she loves Fidel. The last picture in this group shows some beds and night tables which we sent down last year.
Our next stop was for lunch at the local “Visitors House” (this is like a small hotel where the local government provides food and lodging for visiting dignitaries or government officials) where they provide a nice lunch for us.
After lunch were went to a local drop in centre for the mentally handicapped (Centro de Salud Mental Nuevitas). Again we had a show put on, starting with some Children singing for us and followed by a fashion show which we found odd until the director told us that the clothes were all items that we had sent down. After the show we toured the centre and they showed us the crafts that they do. The director thanked us for the aid and then we were each presented with a couple of craft items, the ladies in our group received a floral bouquet.
We then returned to the Gran Club St Lucia for the night.
