Puerta Vallarta
« on: July 24, 2008, 10:42:02 AM »
We are finally thinking of taking a trip again this winter - it's been too long since the last one.  We are thinking of trying Puerta Vallarta for a change (probably Riviera Nayarit, not right in the town).  Has anyone been there?  Any advice, opinions, comments etc. welcomed.  We loved being on the Pacific in Costa Rica so thought we'd try it again.

I haven't been  but I was talking to a coworker and he said that he loved it.

Good to hear that it's vacation time again for  you.  Let us know what you decide on.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

We've been looking at brochures and reviews and found some resorts that seem to be what we want. Relaxing on the beach, plenty of variety of restaurants, bars, pools etc. Nothing to do buy eat, drink and read a good book. We really missed our trip south last year with DH's surgery. Hopefully nothing like that happens again to keep us home this winter.  So far, the other eye is progressing normally - not ready for surgery yet!

LG, I haven't been to this area, but my brother and SIL went to the Decameron in PV a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. This past January my SIL was looking for places to go for a girls trip and they ended up going to PV (different hotel I think it was either the Palladium or the NH Krystal) and again they had a really good time.

Which hotels are you looking at?

We like the look of the Decameron and also Samba (I think). There are a few that look pretty nice but I think Dec. wd be our 1st choice.  We like the look of a the long sandy beach to walk on. And I think there is a small town/village within walking distance of the Decameron to add some interest.
