Havana, August 27th 2008

During a presentation held on August 25th in the famous Club Havana, MARES president Gerald Skrobanek announced a number of strategic initiatives and cooperations to support Cuba in developping its scuba diving business.

Cuba holds a unique and in many areas still unexplored underwater world which is also maintained and developped by a sustainable environmental protection program.

Cuba in a controlled and limited way plans to open the beauty of the country to divers by establishing over 100 new dive sites and diving centers. MARES will support this initiative with its succesful MARES Diving Center program.

The cooperation agreements MARES entered include a distrinution agreement with Cubas state owned company DSY for naval business as well as "Flori &Fauna", Cubas large organisation to protect its environment and natural reserves and supervising 26 natural parcs.

As a highlight of the visit, the Mares delegation got welcomed by commandante Guillermo Garcia Frias, where MARES expressed an invitation to Cuba to present the diving opportunities the country offers to European divers at the EUDI show 2009 within a Cuba corner at the MARES boot.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

That's great to see Cuban diving getting more attention.

I'll bet the US dive companies are ticked right now.  In these hard economic times, here's a huge untapped market... that they can't touch!
