C-Cleaner
« on: January 24, 2006, 11:25:00 PM »
Just wondering if many have tried this free program;

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

 I've had it on an XP Home OS for about 6 months and it seems to keep prefetch, temp files and cache problems to a minimum.

 cheers,
 Flygt

I've used it with a few of my clients and it's quite good, and the best part is that it's a freebee.  It usually doubles the space recovered (sometimes more) than what you would get when you just clear out your internet temp files.  You can also tell it to look at other programs, for instance if you use Firefox, or Netscape or any other web browser that it knows about.  It also allows you to chose certain files, (cookies for instance) that you want to keep, such as cookies that have site login information (the remember me option on our site for instance).  I quite like it, but it can remove some items that you might want to keep, so before you use it, make sure you understand what it's deleting.  The only real problems that I have seen is when it deletes auto-logon entries, some people have complained about that, but even that is no real problem, unless you've forgotten your login information.  The built in registry cleaner is very good, and can help improve the speed of your machine in some cases, but again, have a browse through the list that it gives you before you tell it to trash everything.  All in all, a worthwhile download.

That's too true johnnycastaway!
 I've used cleaners like this before and so made sure I took a look at the list on C-Cleaner first. I chose to let it clean everything and will just re-do all my logins because I find that when I run utilities like this one, if I don't let them run in entirety on the first time out, they do weird things to my PC.
 Maybe it's just that I have not made good choices in the past (what to clean and what not), so the 'clean-it-all-now' option works best for me.   :blah:

 Your post is definitely poignant!

thanks flyt

 I used it too and no problems.

 I'm embarrassed to say how many mb of files it had to clean up.     :roll:

 I went into the options part and told it to keep the cookies for the forum so I didn't lose that information.

thanks also - I used it and couldn't believe the cookies that turned up, sites I hadn't looked at in 3 years or so still sitting in my computer.
