Need Suggestions for a Resort
« on: April 29, 2005, 08:15:00 PM »
Hi everyone

 We know the date we're going, we just don't know where.

 When:  May 15 or 16th

 Requirements:

   </font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Great beach...my daughter doesn't like the "yucky stuff" in the water</font></li>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">

 </font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Great pool...daughter wants a large pool with swim up bar</font></li>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
 </font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Good entertainment at night....daughter likes to stay up past 10 o'clock</font></li>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
 Personally, I could care less where I go. So long as it has a great beach I'll sleep under a bush.     :D

 But...taking darling daughter and she is a little more picky.  she's 18 by the way and it's her first time to Cuba.  she's been everywhere else...DR, Jamaica, Australia, spain, britain etc.

 Any help would be appreciated, we are hoping to get booked this weekend.

 thanks,
 Heather

OMG...Heather, you made me LOL and spit on my laptop!! (must be the Rosemont)

 I hate to send you away from Jamaica, but what about Breezes Jibacoa??  For June it was down to $525 pp for a week.  Otherwise the deal for Negril Gardens is pretty darn sweet.

the deal for NG is gone.

 BJ is good but is there "yucky stuff"  in the beach.  Last year in Puerta Plata ..darling daughter said.." That's just nasty"  don't want a repeat of that.

I can't believe that nobody wants the chance to "tell me"  where to go !!

 Come on somebody must have some favorite resort that they can recommend.

I just did a search on sunholidays for those dates, i'm assuming you're leaving from Toronto.  I found a bunch of resorts in the 750-900$ range.  Here's a list of the ones that i thought would appeal to a picky 18 y.o. (being a picky 30y.o. myself).  I haven't seen/been to them all, but i have a bad habit of spending cold winter nights reading resort reviews!

 Sol LUna Mares $783
 Barcelo Solymar  $828
 Bella Costa  $798
 Tryp Cayo Coco  $858
 El Senador  $859
 Breezes Varadero $938

 I would narrow it down to a short list, print off the reviews from debbies site for each of the hotels, give them to your daughter and let her decide.  If she makes the final choice then she will complain much less!

Heather, I assume you still need that second solo room, so no single supplement is important right?

no single supplement would be great.  I'm noticing quite a few are offering that now starting May 1.  Too bad Mr B couldn't get it for PP even though they advertised it!!!

I have no idea about the last min deals ,but we have been to Bahia Principe-beautiful beach,food so-so,lots of walking & stairs.Pool not too big no swim-up.Entertainment so-so,but they have a band that starts up after the show is done on an open stage .I have heard it really starts to rock then(too late for me)

 Also been to Jibacoa(my favorite) beach not as nice,but fine don't have to walk out far.Snorkelling right off the beach area.Food-great smaller resort with 250 rooms.Evening entertainment done by the staff-so-so.They do have a disco that starts up after the show-again never made it .I have heard it can be great fun depending on the crowd that week. For me I'm like you just get me to the sun-I'm not fussy   :cool:    :cool:    :cool:    :cool:

thanks carrottop,
 I'm not fussy but it's still nice to have a comfy bed.     :)

 Has anybody been to Arenas Dorado in Varadero?
 they offer a free day trip to Havana, that might make it worthwhile.

Hey Heather,
 Was going to ask if you've booked yet?
 Solymar deal is good!

 As you know we were at the Solymar in March this year. Beach is awesome and there is no "yucky stuff".

 Although there is no disco at the Solymar, the staff of the Solymar escort people to the hotel International's disco next door.

 We stayed in the Bungalows as certain rooms in the main part of the hotel tend to be noisy, i.e. the ones above the lobby bar. Plus my review is on the site as well.

Solymar has been on my list for a few years now.

 Can you recommend a good room #, we like a balcony so second floor or up.  I know that there's no real ocean view in Varadero but sunset side would be nice. We like to sit on the balcony with a millwood and watch the sunset.

Heather,
 We were in bungalow 2112, sun in the afternoon, early evening. The bungalows are two floor, so there is a balcony off of the second floor.
 If you are in the main hotel, then you want to ask to be on the pool view side. Sorry don't have any room numbers for the hotel. I do know a lady that was there before us, and I took some stuff down for her in March, I can ask her if she stayed in the hotel and if she can recommend a room. I'll get back to you about that.
