Playa Costa Verde
« on: June 05, 2005, 02:33:00 PM »
Hi can anyone give me the low down.

Is this a good hotel?? (looks nice from the photos).

Is it linked to the Playa Pesquero somehow?  I'm a bit confused because Mojito-Miss photos had a couple of the Pesquero reception area.

December weather should be ok shouldn't it???  Comparable with Dominican?

 Sorry for all the questions.

JJay:

There are 3 hotels on Pesquero beach and all are separately owned to the best of my knowledge.

At the far end of the beach lies the Blau Costa Verde where Garin recently stayed.   Until a month or so back this hotel was called the Maritim Costa Verde and before that the LTI Costa Verde.   Because of the LTI German connection there are usually a lot of Germans staying at this resort (Italians too).

Next door to this hotel is the Playa Costa Verde (formerly SuperClubs Breezes), this is an excellent hotel and is the one where mojitomiss_cuba stayed.

Right next door to this is the Gaviota owned Playa Pesquero hotel, where flopnfly recently stayed and ME also in February/March.  This hotel is the largest hotel in Cuba with 944 rooms and was opened by Fidel himself in January 2003.  This is a top notch resort, trust me.

With regard to the December weather, it is likely to be a little cooler than the Dom Rep.  I was in Cayo Coco last December and the weather was fine, apart from the wind, but the Cayos are exposed and noted for strong winds at this time of the year.   One thing though, the temperature will drop in the evening and something with long sleeves does need to be packed.

Now it's over to mojitomiss_cuba to fill you in on the PCV!!!

I can help out here too, not that I've ever got to spend a full week there!!  ;)

The PCV is my favorite hotel in Cuba, and I've been "bumped" to more than 1. To my mind, it has all the features of the PP, but in a smaller hotel, so it is less busy, and easier walking.  The beach is, to me, the best in Cuba.  Lots of sand in the middle, with rock and coral for snorkelling at each end, as well as having the best scuba instructors in Cuba!

The food is good, (and Don't miss the Japanese... ask for Luke he's wonderful!)

JJay we stayed at the PP in March.  Our kids really loved it and want to go back.  There is a lot of walking.  The next time we go back I will ask for a room closer to the pool and the lobby.  I don't know if you have kids or not, but their anamacion/sports teams are the best of anywhere we have ever stayed.

However, after seeing mojito's photos at PCV, I would give that a try also.

Thanks for the feedback.  Definitely will give this one some thought.  I would have liked to book Playa Pesquero but it is just not coming up on the travel sites at the moment.  Mind you thats not to say it won't appear in the next few days as I believe they offer the ones they have lots of availability for and things change as people book up.  I have seen this happen many times.  I also find that weekends are the worst time to look for a bargain, infact I've been told that holidays often go up in price 5p.m. on Friday.

Playa Costa Verde is coming up at a reasonable £720.  Can't grumble at that price.

JJay, I highly recommend the PCV. My pictures don't do this resort justice. There's a ton of stuff to do, the food's just fine, the people are fantastic.
At 480 rooms it's to me just the right size. You never feel like you have to walk very far to get to anything. I cannot wait to go back there. In all fairness the only part of the PP that I saw was the lobby and the section of rooms closest to the PCV. But I don't care for really large resorts, and I wanted something a little bigger than some of the smaller resorts.
I say "go for it"!!!!! and take me with you, lol

Select Cuba as the country and Playa Costa Verde as the hotel.

I've just posted mojitomiss_cuba's review on the main trip reports site as well.

 Great Review!

John:

I guessed you would make it available there on your return, complete with photo link.

It is a wonderful review, I have to admit.  Well worth reading.

Wonderful review Wendy.  Reading it along with viewing the pics, makes me want to give this resort a try.

You're right about the little things they do for you, for example granting your room request, the bottle of champagne and the birthday cake.  These things can make your vacation a very happy one.

Good morning millybess - you are up bright and early?   Who are you transporting where this morning?

Was a good review I have to agree.  I'll probably be going there for the February Holguin gathering, but if I remember correctly you can't make it then can you?

I've been up since 5:00 to transport Bess to the back door.  She absolutely insists on getting up at 5:00 every a.m.  We've tried everything, for example feeding her later at night.  Nothing works.  Her kidneys were damaged during her abuse, so that might have something to do with it.

You're right about the Holguin gathering.  Mike and I would really love to go, but with m-in-law away for 3 weeks commencing February 8, that will be impossible.  :(

I'd forgotten about Bess needing to answer the call of nature so early in the morning.

Can't you introduce a rota system so you can share the early rising around a bit?

Mike and I do share.  However, I find that if he gets up that early, he's "dog-tired"   :D  .  I seem to be able to handle the early hours better.

Transport Bess over here and I'll get up and let her out for you, so you can have a rest, I have to get up at 5 for Freeway my 15year old cross, as he can't wait any longer than that, so if I do it this week, you can do next week - seems fair - what do you think?  :sunin:  Then we both can get some sleep.
