Hi Ken657, you'll have a great time there.
We were there a couple of years back, had a great time.  Here's some pictures:

we mainly used the bus that runs the Varadero strip all day long to go to Varadero, and a couple of the other hotels.

Pictures look lovely.  I think the Tryp's just popped back up to the top of my hotel list again.  Was the food good when you were there.  Booked my fortnight off with my new job and I'm just price watching now.

We only ate in the buffet because we really don't like being tied to a clock on vacation.  The buffet food was excellent.  Lots of choice and well cooked.

the only excursion we did was the catameran and swim with the dolphins.  Loved it.

We got the double decker bus into Varadero and spent the day on the beach there with some of the locals, I highly recommend doing this.  Great little market in Varadero as well.

I'm not sure if they still offer it but the previous year we went on an excursion to Bay of Pigs.  That was fabulous and well worth the money.

Tryp is a beautiful resort and we would go back in a heartbeat.
