Dolphins/Holguin
« on: January 17, 2006, 08:38:00 PM »
Can anyone who has gone on the swimming with the dolphins excursion in the Holguin area give me an idea of what it is like. Mainly how long do you get to actually be in with them and how many people are there in at a time?

It's been a couple years but here goes. I believe there were 4 of us in at a time. We spent about 15-20 minutes actually in with the dolphins. When we arrived, we had a tour of the facility, went for the actual swim itself, sat to watch a dolphin show (wife participated), then a few drinks and a sea lion show. We then were treated to  lobster dinner and a traditional cuban dance show. The dinner and show were part of the late afternoon/evening package. I believe it was around $25 more than the morning show which ended after the sea lions. The dinner package and swim filled up very quickly. Hope this helps. I will try to remember in whatever state I spend next week to try to get you prices and post them upon my return.

I did a slightly different package last week, and it was great.

120 CUC.  You take a Catamaran that holds 30 people, and do a nice cruise up to the reef at Paradisus, for 30 min of snorkelling.  Then a light snack, on the way to the Dolphinarium.  Guides will suggest you take some beer with you to the dolphinarium, because you'd have to pay there.

We were in 2 groups of 6 in the water, and you spend about 20 min with the dolphins.  They now charge an extra 10 CUC (not included) if you want to do the fin ride, or the water ski, with the dolphins.

Then we had a big lobster lunch, and did a tour of the rest of the facility.  There are now 2 baby dolphins in seperate pens.  One is about 4 months old, and the other is only five weeks.

Back to the Catamaran, to sail back to the marina, and a short bus ride, back to the hotel.
If at first, you do not succeed; You Obviously did Not use a BIG enough Hammer!!!
If at first, you Do Succeed.. try not to look tooo Astonished!

My wife and I went on the same excursion as Gambitt. Before we went my wife was the one who was the most excited about swimming with the dolphins, where I was more reserved about it. But after we went, I have to say it was worth every cent. I would definitely do it again. They dolphins are incredible. If you have your own water proof camera you can take it into the water with you or if you don't the staff will take pictures with your camera for you. Also the snorkelling, lobster lunch, and catamaran were wonderful as well.
