Holguin photos
« on: January 29, 2006, 01:09:00 PM »
I have just managed to sort out some photos of Holguin to post.    I made two trips there during my stay.  The first was a afternoon bus trip from the hotel which cost just 19 CUC's where I went with Debmich and family.   Unfortunately I did not take any photos from the bus of the houses but I have seen those in Debbie's photos and these do show the extremely poor living conditions of many of the people.

The second visit was last Sunday when I drove out to Holguin to meet up with two of my friends.   Once again we visited the Hill of the Cross but then they took me on to Mirador de Mayabe (Mayabe Lookout) which is a small resort complex some 6 miles south east of Holguin.  Rooms here are priced at 50 CUC's per night and suites at 60 CUC'c per night (including breakfast).   I had a look at one of the suites and it was very nice indeed.    The resort is wonderfully landscaped and after seeing all the poverty driving around Holguin it was in stark contrast.      I fell in love with the place I have to admit.    Not sure how many rooms they have, probably around the 60 mark, but it was fully booked that night.

Entry to the resort on a day visit is 3 CUC's per person, which includes two free drinks at the bar.    They only restriction on Cubans is that they are not allowed to stay overnight, but I have to say it was a fabulous resort and I spent a wonderful afternoon there with my friends. There is a large restaurant there and the prices were very reasonable but we chose to go back into Holguin to eat as I wanted to see more of the real Cuba.

One of the main attractions of the resort is Pancho - the beer drinking donkey.   Now although I did not approve of using a donkey this way, I thought that I should photograph him.   He drank 8 plastic mugs full of beer that I saw and I heard that he drinks up to 22 a day, and at the rate he was consuming them whilst I was watching I could easily believe that.   Sometimes he needs a little encouragement to drink so they feed him with crunchy chicharrones (pork rinds) first.

:)  Very nice pictures Bellagio.  The scenery is beautiful and the vegetation so lush.  Holquin would be a "must see" if staying in that area and going up those stairs at the lookout looks like a really good way to wear off all that resort food!

Hi Bellagio
Now let's get serious!! Pancho drinks too much so Pancho can't be a Babe??? If we look at Poncho's Body mass, it would seem to me that Poncho's 22 beer cups per day is equivalent to about 1/2 in actual beers (cup size). And due to the fact that Poncho is at least twice your body size/weight, I would think that comparing apples to apples, you and Poncho are at least on a par for Alchol consumption and certainly (because of this) Poncho should be considered a "BELLAGIO BABE"!!!(That's our story and we're sticking to it)

Sorry you have completely lost me there I'm afraid.    :rof:    :rof:    :rof:

There are quite a number of Cuban young ladies I'm proud to call Bellagio Babes, but I hardly think Pancho the Donkey qualifies!!!!!!
