Cameleon Jibacoa
« on: March 06, 2006, 08:48:00 AM »
Just checked YTT, this resort is going for $597, leaving April 7th ... not even last minute yet ... I'm tempted ... the only other cheap one right now is Marea de Portillo (went there about 18 years ago) for $537 ... I'm going to keep reading reviews on these, Los Corales was the choice up until seeing these !!!!

If you don't mind a resort that is a 3+ one, I'd say grab the Cameleon.  It has a good beach and snorkelling.  AND, it is only one hour from Havana.   :)  Everyone who has gone and has written a review seems to say it's good value for the buck. (we were recently at Breezes Jibacoa next door)

We are heading to Breezes Jibacoa in 19 more sleeps  :b:   Have been hearing pretty good reviews of the Cameleon in spite of the 3* rating. If we had a deal like that from Halifax, I'd grab it! The only thing I might compare the 2 resorts you are looking at would be that the other is over 18 yrs old and if it has had any recent reno's. I know that the Cameleon has been undergoing some as it has just been taken over by new management so that might give it an advantage over the other.
Let us know what you decide, and good luck.
ut of my mind. Back in 5 minites.

Interesting finding ... I've been doing some further reading this morning and one person claims that this resort used to be called Club Tropico, back in the 80's.

Now, the 80s are somewhat of a blur for me but when I went to Cuba way back when, we stayed at a resort called "el tropico" I believe, or could have been "club el tropico" ... so I'm going to try to do more research and see if it is indeed the same place.
