Am I on the right track
« on: April 26, 2006, 03:43:00 AM »
Just thought I'd run this by you all.  This is so far what I have planned to take along with me as gifts.  I'm trying to stick to very light and small things.

 Toothpaste
 Soap
 Face Cloths
 Paracetamol
 Nail Varnish
 Lipstick
 Gardening gloves
 Dishcloths
 Felt tip pens
 Colouring crayons
 Chocolate
 Chewing Gum

Probably won't be able to pack much more that this but are these the right sort of things to take.

Did embarrass ourselves in Bulgaria giving soap to a very friendly waiter.  He got quite upset and got the ski instructor to come over and tell us he wasn't dirty he had a cold and it was making him sweat!! How bad did we feel.  We did get her to explain that we had been led to understand soap was difficult to get hold of and it was meant as a gift and we also gave him some cold and flu remedies.  So it all turned out ok in the end but the poor guys face when he thought we were telling him to go take a wash!!!

Hello JJay,

Love your story about the soap in Bulgaria.
The items you are bringing to Cuba I'm certain will be appreciated.
Cubans unfortunately need everything but value whatever we can give them.

 Have a great trip.

Just a suggestion, since you are taking nail polish, maybe you could also give some remover as well. I'm sure it will all be appreciated.
 Have a great trip.

Disposable razors and deodorants are lightweight we also took a couple of extra baseball caps anything we take for granted is hard to get in Cuba

JJay your list sounds good.  I would add some pantyhose (tights) for the women.

I'm always amazed that they wear those in that heat.  Maybe it's a requirement for the job??

any kind of childrens medication is always appreciated as is childrens clothing and shoes.

Don't forget the lip balms with sunscreen in them.

I always take extra and give to the water sports guys.  They tell me that their lips always get dry and burned being out in the sun all day.

Good idea about the lip balms and tights.  Nice and light to pack.

the women all go crazy over makeup so whatever you bring will be appreciated.  It's easy to pack as well.  Feminine hygeine products are a great gift too.

If you are planning a trip to Habana,  you might want to take along fishing line and hooks to give to the fisherman along the Malecon,  very much appreciated.
