To the SCCG Girls = please help
« on: May 13, 2006, 12:50:00 PM »
Hello girls,
Two girlfriends and I are looking at a one-week trip to Cuba in late July.  Because you all had such a ball at the SCCG I am wondering if we should go there too.  Question--that second floor room that some of you had looks great-can you tell me its building number and room number?  It looked like it was oceanfront.  We don't want to be close to loud noise tho.  Is under $1200 for July WAAAAY to much? I know you went at a cheap time so don't let meknow how cheap your trip was.      Are the oceanfront rooms worth the extra $? And one last one: could you have lunch over at the Melia next door? THANX for any help.  travelchick

Hiya travelchick,

It was a great resort if you just want to kick back and have some fun.  It's a smaller resort so it's very easy to get to know all of the staff and meet other tourists.

the beach is amazing!!!, and the pool is where everybody hangs out late afternoon.  the only downfall about the pool is no swim up bar, but they do come round and offer you drinks and the bar is only a few steps away.

The food was good, the drinks were good and we all had a great time.

I'm trying to remember our room number, I think it was 1001 but I'll double check on that for you.  We were beachfront and the room was amazing.  Comfy bed and a nice big balcony facing the ocean.

The only loud noise in that area was coming from our room.     :D   One night we had about 20 people in there.

It's a quick jaunt to the beach bar which is open until midnite from the room.  Or a quick stagger back to the room.     :D

I won't tell you what we paid because we got a good deal and we went in the cheap time.

Sunquest has it on for $803 plus taxes for mid July.  I think that's a reasonable price for July.

 I would recommend this resort.

Thanks so much for your reply flopnfly!  I appreciate it....That price through sunquest (?) is cheaper than Sunwing.  BUT, with Sunwing comes a hurricance guarantee that you can get your money back if...blah, blah, blah.  Do you think it is worth it???  Yes, if you can tell me the room and bldg. number of the one that was oceanview, that's grand.  thnks again. travelchick

hi again,

There are no guarantees with the weather and or hurricanes especially the last couple of years.  They are predicting that this will be a busy year for storms so who knows?

I would book with whatever you are comfortable with.  We have been in August and didn't see anything more than 10 minutes of rain, but again there are no guarantees.

We were in the 1000 block, and a couple of the other girls were next door in the 9000 block.

travelchick,

my room was 805: a single story bungalow with cathedral celilings as well. It was quite close to the beach and cubanitos.

The upper floor balcony rooms were awesome though. I have always liked a balcony, though I did make use of my patio and I didn't have any bug problems.
I think but I'm not sure that Heathers room was 1005 and the other girls room was 909

It really is a great resort and as heather said the only thing missing was a swim up bar. But gee getting up to get a drink was such a hardship (NOT!!)  :)
 Enjoy

I just booked Jamaica for June with Sunquest and hey offer a hurricane guarantee for their, I would think they would offer it to other destinations too

Thanks momisscuba.  I esp. appreciate the room numbers.  We definitely want a second floor room and if one of the women who stayed in that corner room would let me know the number of it, that would be great.  It does look like a good resort.  Sunwing is offering that hurricane thing too so we are looking at them.  I will now check on Sunquest and see if Cuba applies.  Thanks foryour comments. OH-- Very Important Question.  Is there really tai-chi at the resort?  One of the girls was excited about this. travelchick

Travelchick,

I was the one in the corner room.  Room 1005.

Yes they have Tai Chi in the mornings.  check out the times at the towel hut by the pool.  There is a complete list of activities on the board.

Was looking at last minute deals just for fun and saw the SCCG from Montreal leaving on Friday for 1047 taxes in for 14 days.  This is a good time for last minute deals.

Milli:
Although we could not get away this spring, DH and I are thinking that maybe as of next spring we could go for one week (we went to Cuba last November) so we could have 2 one week trips per year.  So I have been monitoring prices since the end of April.  I thought that prices for last minute deals would go down as of end of April, beginning of May.  I have only recently been seeing good deals for last minute travel  but not as good as what we paid for in late November. I thought prices would be similar.
Personally, I would prefer to go no later than the second week of May.
