Looking for a Deal over New Years
« on: October 01, 2006, 08:21:00 AM »
Dear All:

We usually travel to Cuba during the first two weeks of December and always find great deals. This year however is our son's first year of High School and we are not too comfortable pulling him away for a week. Our only option seems to be to travel during Christmas/New Years break

We would like to travel between Dec. 28th and January 7th. I've been scanning the usual sites and prices are pretty much double of what we are used to paying.

Do any sell-offs come up during this period? Is it wise to try and go last minute??

Any advice from experienced travellers would be appreciated.

I've studied the prices over the christmas break, and initially they are high.  Sometimes double what they would normally be.

You can wait last minute and grab a deal, but keep in mind it's not going to be the kind of deals that you are seeing right now.  The prices over Christmas will come back down to normal or maybe slightly less when you wait last minute.

If you have your heart set on a certain resort and destination, then I would advise you to book early.  The last minute deals aren't always the choice resorts.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Hi Avidtraveller,
Just recently booked the AI on it's own for the Dec. 28th period...(our son in grade twelve and like you don't want to pull him out of school). As I travel a fair bit, I was able to get flights using air miles (AC) to Holguin.  I booked Playa Costa Verde (was there in March this year)through a Cuban tour company and got a pretty good price in my opinion, roughly $630 CDN for each person.  Heather gives good advice - I checked the PCV for the same time period including flight and the price is $1400 before taxes, and that is per person.
Hope you are able to find something.
