Cuba in June?
« on: March 24, 2007, 11:04:00 AM »
Well, my original intent was to vacation somewhere, sometime in April.
I'm not stuck on one location, country etc, but the prices in April (other than some 3 stars in Puerta Plata) aren't blowing my mind if you know what I mean.
I have searched multiple destinations (Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica, DR) for the entire month of April and May and there's nothing screaming BOOK ME!!!
I was actually kind of leaning towards Varadero this year (I think the BIT would have a blast there) but again no great deals other than some of the 3 stars (not on the beach or not 24 hr all inclusive etc).

 BUT I FOUND THIS:
 PCV June 3 for 578 + taxes   :)

I love the last minute game, but I'm just not seeing some of the great deals I remember seeing last year at this time. Last April, I could have grabbed the PCV for a bit more than this but chose to honor a previous committment to the girls and go the Cayo Guillermo (no regrets, beautiful spot). I also had a chance to grab it in November 2005, but ended up going to Cayo Santa Maria instead (again no regrets, saw the amazing Che Memorial).

 Oh I'm sooo confused  :(

   :(
I was in Holguin in June '05. The weather was HOT. Then we had the rain that broke a 2 year drought. 16" of rain in 10 hours. That woke up ALL the mosquitoes that had been dormant for the last 2 years. I had some 'COMBAT' 97% deet. I was OK but the other 26 people at the resort suffered.
Beware of booking too late as some resorts close for the summer and are on reduced supplies the week before they close. The last 2 days before closing, the buffet was rice and beans and some kind of meat(?).
It was cheap and I would go again in June but I have no vacation time at the new job. Wait till next year!

John, that was the year you went to Cova am I correct?
Was that June 2005? I seem to remember you going shortly after I came back from the PCV in May that year. During the big drought.

When I was there in May, it was HOT, HOT, HOT  :D
but I met a couple who had been going to the PCV at that time of year for the past 5 years and they said it was the hottest it had ever been, so we seemed to hit an unusually hot, humid spell

 Decisions, decisions  :D

So where's the new job? Same area?

You're right. Villa Covarrubias in early June. I bought the ticket 2 weeks ahead of time and got a great price, NSS. If I had waited another week I could have saved another $220. Oh well. Great place and a good time.
Unless you've got your heart set on a specific place to go, wait! I will never again buy a ticket more than a week in advance.
The new job is on the shore of Lake Huron, near Tiverton. If you're going camping at Inverhuron or McGregor Point this year let me know!

I am glad we booked way back, the PCV is not coming up for April with 1st Choice not sure about the other holiday companies, allocated on arrival on arrival is £879           it was under £700 last year, prices are far higher than last year for last minute deals, vacations to Cuba are becoming more popular over here that helps to keep prices high, not sure what prices will be like in the future the four main tour companies are merging into two companies.

Once you find a good deal for somewhere you fancy go for it, we are already looking for next year when I think the price is right it will get booked, the PCV is coming up at £717 and the PP for £785 for next April thats less than I paid for this year

How ya doing Scorp !

I'm sure June will be hot, but that's how we like it      :D

I also love the last min game that is always how I book . I think that deal could not get any better ! Well maybe, last Oct I got  MCSM for $440 + tax two weeks before departure .If the PCV was on my list I would book it ! I have a few resorts on my list that's what I go by , If I see one of them at a great deal I book .

I know it is hard to make up your mind I'm the same . We usually go the last week of April or the first week in May , but prices always seem to be better end of May and June, this year will plan on going last week of May or first week of June, I have both weeks booked until I find out what week, I have been looking but not seeing anything yet , I sure prices will not come down till after Easter. I want to go to Cuba or Cozumel .I just got back from Kennedy bingo and won $1,000 ! that will help pay for our trip !
 Good Luck !

When do you fly out?
 What airline?
Like I said, if you've got your mind/heart set on a particular resort, and a specific week, book it when you are happy with the price. And don't check prices any more.

John

We fly on Sunday June 3 with Sunwing (used them before and no complaints) with the icky stop on the way there in Cayo Coco (have also done this a couple of times, no biggie really)
Way back is direct Holguin to Toronto which I prefer since it's a late flight
We leave Sunday Toronto @ 3pm on Sunday June 3
Leave Holguin @ 9:30 pm Sun June 10

I wasn't checking the S.O. sites that far into the year (was going as far as 3rd week May - Victoria Day weekend) but remembered that the first couple weeks of June have had some great deals so I checked it on Friday night and found the PCV.
I kept checking it all weekend, positive it was an error and was going to disappear into thin air by the time I got to work today  :)

Good deal.
We enjoyed PCV. At the time of our visit the name was Breezes. I think it was the nicest resort I've been to in Cuba. Not my favourite, (too big), but nicest.
Now don't look at the sell-off pages any more.

John, I believe I've told you this before, but it was your comments on the PCV (Breezes) that really swayed us to this resort 2 years ago (I originally planned on going to Cayo Coco, got sidetracked on that destination for a year  ;)
I do it every trip (I'm obsessive) and so far I haven't flipped out because of a waaay too dramatic price change  ;)
