Just thought I would pass this along for those who have not seen it.
I have done this exact location many times, and it is one of my favorite dive spots. But it never hurts to take that extra precaution, no matter where you dive.
Diver dies on Stoney
Jun 29, 2005
An Ajax woman is dead following a Scuba diving mishap Sunday afternoon near Burleigh Falls.
Peterborough County OPP say divers with the Ajax Scuba Club were on Stoney Lake practicing a buoyancy dive. The divers were working in pairs at the time of the accident.
Althea Rhooms, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"She went down and had difficulty breathing," says Senior Constable Brad Filman.
Her diving partner, Nurry Calderon, 34, of Pickering, tried to help but Ms Rhooms was flailing in the water.
Sr. Const. Filman says Ms Calderon signaled for them to surface but she couldn't grab hold of the panicked woman.
The club's dive master found Ms Rhooms in 45 to 50 feet of water.
With help from other divers, she was brought to the surface where CPR was started.
She was taken to shore where paramedics continued CPR in a bid to revive her.
The investigation continues.
