Help with Mcaffee!
« on: July 19, 2005, 10:00:00 PM »
Hi Techies!
I need help.  I have had MCAfee put on my computer and have not been able to get on certain sites since then! Namely Hotmail, yahoo, bank sites, air miles, etc, etc.  I don't know what to do to make them accessible, and I have not had a chance to run my laptop in to have it looked at in Red Deer!
I have gone to the mcaffee website and tried to get help there, and there is an option to chat with a techie and lo and behold, I cannot get on it either! So no help there!
So any suggestions from you computer geeks! (I love computer geeks!)

I'm not too familiar with McAfee but if all else fails, you can look down at the bottom of the screen on the right hand side.  There is likely an icon for McAfee.  Right click on that.  A menu will pop up that will have a Disable option.  You can disable McAfee long enough to get to the techie web site if no one here can help.

Hi Debmich,
it's probably the "personal firewall" that Mcafee installs, you should be able to disable it from the mcafee control center either from START/PROGRAMS/MCAFEE...   or by right clicking on the mcafee Icon in the system tray in the lower right, there should be an option for the control center, or it may even let you disable it from there.

Did that, didn't work though! Would I need to reboot in order for it to take effect?

It wouldn't hurt.  sometimes the service keeps running even though you tell it not to run.  ONce you reboot, then it doesn't start back up again...  hopefully.   :D
