webcam woes
« on: January 14, 2007, 07:32:00 PM »
I got a new webcam for Christmas. It's a Logitech. I loaded it on my new computer and it shutdown the computer. When I turned it back on the monitor would not come up. Long story short, they sent me a new computer. I reloaded the webcam and had about an hour and a half video conference and pow the blue screen with the "problem" message showed up again (A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer....). I turned the computer back on and everything seems fine. I am afraid to use the webcam for fear that it will knock out the monitor again.

I know a lot of you have webcams, help please.   Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

While you are waiting for an answer, how was your audio and video in the video conversation that you had?  I bought a Logitec last winter (identical to my son's and daughter's) and I get a small delay in the movements in the picture.  It is just a little annoying --something like a movie when the actors lips are not quite in sync with the words.

The picture and sound quality were perfect. No delay at all. Maybe they improved that problem over the last year.

OTOH, are you on dial-up or high speed? On Christmas Day I was talking to my daughter, I didn't have the webcam installed but she had one and we were having a video conference, I could see her but she obviously could not see me. I found her picture to be a bit hesitant. The computer I was using was on a dial-up network, the one I'm using now is on high speed cable.

That is a good question.  No we are on High Speed and so is my daughter.  I had given my son an identical one and was looking forward to having a video conversation with him in Bolivia on Christmas Day but his high speed in La paz is not consistent and the conversation and picture were full of freezes, etc.  Hope you get it all sorted out soon.  It is a great way to keep in touch!
