Maragrita Island Venezuala
« on: July 09, 2006, 04:10:00 PM »
Has anyone been to this island, or know anyone that has, Im now researching our holiday for May next year ( I always have one holiday to look forward to whilst I research the next one - going Sol Cayo Santa Maria in Oct).

We are looking at the Dunes Hotel - prices at the moment are quite good £1806 for the two off us - over a bank holiday as well, this includes upgraded seats in premium and insurance.

Any information appreciated.  Reviews on other sites seem quite positive.

The few people I have spoken to who have visited Margarita Island were not impressed with it.

I have been told that standards of hygiene, food etc are not as good as Cuba or even the Dom Rep.

John has been and said that he would never go back under any circumstances!!!

It was the worst vacation ever, the beaches were not great, the food was terrible and the safety on the island left a lot to be desired.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Hello huskypup,

Just spotted your post...regarding this destination. We were there a few years ago and would definitely "not return" to Margarita Island.
As others have mentioned...food in the all inclusive was substandard (our treat was McDonald french fries and a few dinners out),the beaches were "littered" (don't want to go into detail ..envison a dog kennel that hasn't been cleaned for a long time),the shopping which they boast about as "duty free" on the island was priced at double of what Canadian retail prices are at home.
The island's inhabitants were not a happy lot when we were there...inflation was very high for the locals.
There are nicer areas in the world to visit.

   :)

First choice holidays are really pushing this island - they are currently the only tour operator from the UK to fly there.

The reviews on Trip Advisor for the hotel that we are looking at are very good - hopefully the island has cleaned its act up.

Thanks for the comment everyone - Im watching the reviews on this one - before I make up my mind.
