Riu Ocho Rios
« on: October 13, 2005, 10:29:00 PM »
Sunluvr, or anybody else that might know ....

what is happening with this resort?

Sunquest is selling it for $1089 in November, will it be open and operational?  I realize that it's a new resort and there will be some teething pains, but what are the odds that the pool will be filled and the beds made?

Sunluvr you've seen it, what do you think the odds are that they will actually open the door by Nov.

Have you heard anything through the grapevine of anybody that has it booked being bumped somewhere else?

I'm doubting it will be ready much before Christmas, but then again, they're working around the clock on it.  It's absolutely MASSIVE!  There is ALLOT to be done still...it looked basically like the shell was completed when we went by last week.

I'd be holding off booking this place for a bit longer, but I'll also say, it does look impressive!  I'm sure for many it will be worth the wait.

Heather,
I was looking at that one as well.
It keeps coming up on the sell offs - I wonder where they would bump you since it doesn't sound like it will be open in a month

I figure if it's not ready, they'll have to bump us to another Riu.  The only other two Riu's in Jamaica are in Negril.  How bad could that be??     :D

Not bad at all.  Riu Negril was lovely.  Food, staff, surroundings, everything top notch.

Wow...I find it hard to believe they can be open this week and capable of running at a level that would please the clientele.  Our friends who came home last week said they really have been working around the clock to stay on target so at least that's a positive. But based on what I saw 3 weeks ago, it's a given that there will be some significant construction continuing there for some time to come.  Personally, I think I would stick with the Riu in Negril at least until the New Year.
