Features

There are a lot of new features on this board, and it is a bit overwhelming at first.

The first thing that I did was to click on each category name to "collapse"  it.  Now it only shows the name and not all the contents.

I refreshed the page by going back to "Home"  and now I click on "show unread posts since last visit"  and I don't have to wade through every category to find new posts.

Next, I tried out all the different color schemes.  There is a drop down menu at the top right hand corner.

Profile is next, choose and set up your personal preferences, and make sure that the email address you have listed is still a valid one.  If you forget your password it will need to be emailed to you at that address.

Graemlins/Smilies....loads of them and I'm sure that there is a way to personalize these too.  I think that each person can have their favorites in a seperate folder, so that you will only see the ones that you choose to see unless you click on the [more] button.  I just need to find the way to do this.

The calendar is integrated into the board so you have a choice when you make a calendar entry whether you want make it an event.  This means that if you choose this option it will show up in the forums.  Great for departure dates.  Make one entry into the calendar and it automatically shows up in the "Departure Lounge".

The photo gallery is another integrated feature (still a work in progress), you will eventually be able to click on the gallery and it will log you in with your forum ID.  It automatically sets up an album for you, which is handy if you want a place to store your avatar, special smiles etc.

We're finding loads of new stuff to play with as we go along.  If you find something interesting, please share it with the rest of us.

One thing this new board has, is progressive features.

As you post count increases, more and more features will open up for you.  So, keep an eye on the tiltle bar at the top of your screen.

ie PM's are limited to read only for newbies, but you gain full permissions as your post count increases.

If anyone is looking for the smilies from the old board, I'm slowly getting them moved over.  I'm putting most of them in the "more" pop-up, due to their size, so you don't have to scroll down a mile, just to post.

I think I have most of the common ones here, but if your favorite is missing, please let me know, and I'll make it priority to get it over here.

As Flopnfly mentioned the Trip calendar is also integrated into the board now, so when you create an event, it allows you to link it to a post in the departure lounge by default, you can change it if need be.  Unfortunately, we have no way of importing the existing entries in the trip calendar over, except to manually enter them so if you had anything in the old calendar that's coming up, we'd ask that you please re-input it into the new calendar.  The link is on the menu bar.  Ideally, all of the links will end up on that bar as we go along, which should follow all the links.

oh, and new smilies almost daily.  I'm liking this one...   duel

Hey All...

Do to a minor glitch with the coding, we had to recode some of the smiles  (all new sites have some "teething problems"  :ROFL: )...

Unfortunately, the changes aren't retro-active, so if you've used some of the newest smilies, they might not show correctly, in your posts.  If you want to, you can go back and edit your post, to include the new smilie.

The problem has been fixed, and any new smilie usage, will be displayed correctly.

Sorry for the Inconvenience!! :sad10:

Photo Galleries:
Ok, I know and agree that trying to publish several files to the photo gallery can be a bit of a pain in the butt with the browse to your picture, and only being able to do a few at a time.  However, there's a new feature in this updated gallery that lets you bypass that.  when you go to the add pictures/items  section, you'll see many tabs that say "From Browser" "Link" "Picassa" etc, the one that you want to go to is Windows XP.  Windows XP now has the functionality to publish directly to the web.  Very cool.  The page you will see has instructions on how to do it:

Quote
Windows XP comes with a nice feature that allows you to publish content from your desktop directly to a web service. Follow the instructions below to enable this service on your Windows XP system.
Step 1
Download the configuration file using right-click 'Save Target As...' Once downloaded, rename it to 'install_registry.reg'. If it asks you for confirmation about changing the file type, answer 'yes'. Right click on this file and you should see a menu appear. Select the Merge option (this should be at the top of the menu). It will ask you if you want to import these values into your registry. Click 'Ok'. It will tell you that the files were imported successfully. Click 'Ok' again.
Download [install_registry.reg]

Step 2
Open your Windows Explorer and browse to a folder containing supported images. Select the image(s) or a folder and there should be a link on the left that says 'Publish this file to the web...' Click this link and then follow the instructions to log into your Gallery, select an album and publish the image.

The file that you are requested to download is a "registry merge" file, which will put in the information for your system to know where the 7days gallery is, and add it to your publishing list.  Its a safe file, nothing malicious.
This is what's in the file:

Quote
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\PublishingWizard\PublishingWizard\Providers\www.7daysinparadise.com]
"displayname"="Gallery at www.7daysinparadise.com"
"description"="Publish Your Photos and Movies to Gallery"
"href"="http://www.7daysinparadise.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=publishxp.PublishXpLogin"
"icon"="http://www.7daysinparadise.com/gallery/favicon.ico"

As you can see, nothing bad going on there.  download the file and run it, it will add the information to your system..  Then find the folder or pictures that you want to publish, click on them to highlight them, on the left side of your screen under "files and folder tasks" you'll see an option to "PUBLISH THIS FOLDER TO THE WEB"  Click on that, follow the wizard that launches at that point, chose where you're going to publish the pictures to and then let it go.  I find this to be a very handy little utility, especially trying to upload many pictures.

Let me know what you think.
