A week in Paradise
My wife and I flew out of Montreal via Air Transat. Wonderful flight and service. If you can do Trans Class, I highly recommend it. Before landing in Cuba we were given our tourist visa to fill out along with a public health form certifying we were healthy and not full of H1N1 virus. When the plane landed in Varadero, we were greeted by gloved and masked Cuban customs people. They gave one more form to fill to absolutely assure that we were not feeling sick. After we were on the bus to the Iberostar. We were checked in very quickly to room 1525, which turned out to be a suite. Kingsized bed, stocked daily beer fridge with beer , pop and water. Room service was available. ( we didn’t need to use it) There was the standard electronic safe, two umbrellas, coffee pot, and an iron with an iron board. Sliding patio door to an outside balcony with a clothes rack to dry your bathing suit on. Although it was so humid that week (70%), nothing dried, lol The electric plug was the European style wide prong at 220v. The service was excellent. Everyone smiling and saying Hola! The food was fabulous, the drinks were wonderful . If anything, there is a danger of overeating and over drinking there. Its just that good. Waiters and Waitresses bringing drinks around the pool and on the beach. The activities were fun. Always something going on. The music was wonderful. There is always a manager hanging around to make sure everything was running well. They have a big spa offering numerous services along with a fully loaded gym. The beach was great. Not very deep at our end. It was sooooooo hot, we didn’t do a lot of excursions. Ended up going to the Dolpin aquarium. That was pricey but great. On Cuban night , the dancers and musicians danced around the hotel.in full costume. I loved it. On a hygiene note, I didn’t have to take out my Imodium once. The place was spotless and the toilets were clean with toilet paper and seats on the toilet. One my last night there, I had a T Bone steak with crepes suzettes and ice cream for dessert. They even had a vegetarian section every night in the buffet. Very impressive. I didn’t know that one could eat so well in Cuba. I didn’t know that were actually nice hotels of this calibre. This was truly a 5 star hotel. Would I go back with friends and or family? Si!
