Well, my CD arrived yesterday, so I think I'm going to take the plunge this weekend.

I haven't even opened the CD yet, but after a bit of internet reading, apparently you have the option to "upgrade" and save your previous programs, or do a clean install over Vista, and have to reinstall everything.   Fortunately, I've know about the upgrade since I got the laptop, so I haven't installed a lot of programs on this.

I've already backed-up my "can't lose" files onto my desktop, so I'm thinking I am going to do the "clean install".

Well, after further reading, I'm thinking the upgrade might be the way to go...

Then, if that doesn't work out, I can go with the full install.

Okay, Here's a bonus!  :thumbsup:

Finally opened the package, and because my Win7 is direct from Acer, maker of my laptop; there is a Second CD with the program and driver updates.

So, I'm just gonna shove them in, and see what happens!   :dontknow: :dontknow:

This post, brought to you by Windows 7!

Total install time was about 2 hrs. including the before and after use of the Acer CD, as recommended.

A lot of that time seemed to be archiving, and reinstalling programs and settings, so a clean install would appear to be faster.

Now, to try things out and see how it works!

Okay.. First Significant Problem

For some stupid reason, Win 7 doesn't include Windows Mail. :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown:

You're basically left to find your own email program. :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Having used Win 7 for a few days, I'm seriously thinking of going back to Vista! (or even XP!!!!!)

No improvement at all to operation, Startup takes twice as long, and no email.   :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown:

Maybe I should just trade my laptop in on a MAC?

Windows 7 was supposed to be the next greatest thing.

Yup.   I"ve installed every update available.

I think that Mac commerical was right. "This will be better than that... Trust Me"

Another Big Loss for me, is no Quick Launch Bar!!! :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown:


That's it for me...  Vista Might be Crap, but Win 7 is Much Worse...  Seems to be a Trend at Micro-crap!!!  Each new operating system is Worse than the last one.

I love having my laptop, but I would really love to have a MAC.  mainly for the graphics programs I could run.

Well, that's it for Windows 7 for me...

The Laptop is currently erasing the C drive, to go back to the factory default.. Vista..

Edit: Of course this means re-installing everything AGAIN, but at least after the last crash I saved a copy of all my installer files on this computer, to move to the laptop!  :icon_thumright:

Edit 2.  The Laptop is back on Vista...  Now just have to delete/reinstall the programs.

I can't beleive I am trying Win 7 again!

Vista keep crashing, so I'm no farther behind.  This time, I'm trying the full-install to see if it makes it any better?

Well, the install was definitely faster, than doing the upgrade.   Now, just to wait to see how long til this one crashes!!  :duh: :duh: :duh:

Unbeleivably, Windows 7 seems to be working.   :dontknow: :dontknow:

Had to do some manual upgrades, such as the touchpad driver, but so far so good.
