On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays - peak tourism days in Nassau due to cruise ship arrivals - tourism ambassadors will be on hand to serve as a resource for travellers -- pointing them in the right direction of a cultural attraction from the Junkanoo Museum to Parliament Square or a waterside restaurant serving freshly made conch fritters and more. All ambassadors can be identified by bright green vests marked “Ask Me.”
When Canadians travel, many like to venture off the beaten path and the tourism ambassador program allows the Bahamas to provide visitors with exciting activities and educate them on attractions.
Paul Strachan, national director, Bahamas Tourism Office, Canada, notes “Hospitality has always been a hallmark of The Islands Of The Bahamas, and the Ministry of Tourism wanted to take it a step further by inviting our guests to engage in conversation and seek advice from us.”
Strachan added “Many Canadian travellers have expressed interest about the diverse attractions and experiences when vacationing in the Bahamas. The tourism ambassador program allows us to learn about what Canadians are more interested in enjoying on their vacation.”
The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism established the program in partnership with College of The Bahamas, giving Tourism Studies students an opportunity to gain experience in assisting visitors.
