No internet access
« on: September 22, 2010, 03:05:13 PM »
I have a Gateway notebook.

The computer is telling me that I am connected to the internet.

It is saying that I am currently connect to Unidentified Network, no internet access.

Can anybody help me figure out what is wrong?

Apparently it was accessing the internet on Monday then something changed.

I have a high speed internet connection in my home and have a router hooked up to it so I can use my desktop in the living room.

I have already reset the router.

HELP!!

Running Windows 7. With the help of my brother we finally figured out what the problem was. Apparently there is an on off switch for the wireless. This being my first laptop type computer I had no idea such a thing existed. We found it after we went through just about every menu in the computer.

Now the only problem I am having is reading the text. It was fine a couple of weeks ago, not the text is fragmented, I'm sure that is an easy fix too. Just have to figure out where to go to make the text solid again.

Thanks

FYI, there is likely a Function button right on the keyboard that turns the wireless off and on, rather than having to go through the menus.  The icon will look like a golf tee.  If you don't know it's there you can easily turn it off without realizing it.

some of the laptops that I've seen have a physical switch on the computer, usually on the front, right by the lid release so that you can't help but to hit it when you open up the laptop.   :dontknow:

for the text issues, right click on your desktop (open part, not on any icons) and go to personalize.  From there you have options to change text size, form, configuration etc.

Thanks, I will try the personalize option.

My on/off switches for the wifi are at the front of the notebook, on the bottom. I figure hubby turned it off by mistake when he was putting it away. Of course, he just figured that the computer was dying, he is pretty well computer illerate, lol, and he has no patience with this type of gadget.
