For anyone who is interested, I have just found out that SolMelia is planning to build a Paradisus at Cayo Largo.

Unfortunately we aren't able to fly there direct from the UK, but it is one island I would really love to visit. A Paradisus there would be paradise.

At certain times of year we can't fly out of Toronto either. In fact, many flights are cancelled just a few days before sceduled departure. There seem to be many more flights from Montreal.

You know bellagio, it seems that you aren't able to fly to many places in Cuba non-stop. Didn't you have to stop on your way to Holguin and then again in Gander on your way to CSM? If Cayo Largo is a place you would like to get away to, it really wouldn't make any difference if you had to stop in Montreal -- except that you would have to change planes.

Millybess:

The flight that I made to Holguin during the winter flew via Varadero for the purpose of dropping off holidaymakers there first, and then flew on to Holguin, The Cayo Santa Maria flight just needed to refuel at Gander.

Both of these holidays were 'brochure' holidays able to be booked online, over the phone or at a Travel Agent.

Cayo Largo is not a destination that is offered at present by UK tour operators so it cannot be booked as a 'package' type holiday from the UK. I suppose you could book it 'tailor made' so to speak but I rather think it would prove to be overly expensive.

Possibly, you could book the Cuba portion of your holdiay, from a rep here in Canada. They can just send your tickets direct to an airport for pickup.

That's what I was thinking Gambitt. With a cheap flight to Montreal or Toronto, it might be an option.

I agree that is always an option, but it does have it's complications.

If I fly in to Canada the same day as I'm flying out to Cuba I need to be careful in case my Canada bound flight is delayed. The same on my return from Cuba to Canada.

It's not quite as simple as it sounds. It may be theoretically OK but in practice it may turn out to be rather more complicated.
